Job summary

Longwood Gardens is seeking a Land Steward in Kennett Square, PA to manage conservation and enhancement of natural resources and landscapes. The role focuses on promoting ecological function, biodiversity, and beauty while supporting horticultural and programmatic needs across diverse landscapes.

The ideal candidate has a degree in Ecology or related field, 3+ years in natural land stewardship, and experience supervising volunteers.

Qualifications

Requires ecology, land stewardship, and natural resource management knowledge.
Experience supervising or directing students/volunteers.
Strong organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills.

Responsibilities

Manage land stewardship projects to conserve biodiversity and habitat quality across Longwood's natural lands.
Develop project plans, coordinate with supervisors and stakeholders, and implement projects.
Supervise and mentor students and volunteers in stewardship activities.
Perform native planting, invasive species control, habitat restoration, and trail maintenance.
Operate and maintain equipment safely (tractors, skid loaders, chainsaws, etc.).
Support ecological monitoring, data collection, and research projects.
