Job Details

The Echocardiography Technologist performs complete echocardiographic examinations, including M-mode, two-dimensional, and Doppler Echocardiography, on clinical and/or research patients. They assist the Cardiologist, Fellows, or other appropriate personnel in performing transesophageal echocardiographic and stress echocardiographic examinations. The technologist may also coordinate patient flow, staff assignments, provide educational support, and ensure procedures meet IAC standards for Echocardiography.

Job Description

  1. Escort patients from waiting areas to examination rooms, review written history questionnaires, and explain the nature of tests to patients.
  2. Perform echocardiograms (2D, M-mode, color Doppler) following department policies and physician orders.
  3. Conduct transesophageal echocardiograms (TEE) on non-operative/intra-operative cases as per department policies.
  4. Administer dobutamine stress echocardiograms (DSE) and stress echocardiograms according to standards of care.
  5. Log all relevant patient and test data to ensure accurate billing and record keeping.
  6. Monitor the performance and repair of clinical equipment to maintain testing quality and safety.
  7. Maintain images in the Electronic Health Record (EHR).
  8. Clean, disinfect, and sterilize clinical equipment to ensure safety from pathogens.
  9. Participate in on-call duties as per department policy and perform other assigned duties.

Competencies (Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities):

  • Effective Communication: Understanding and applying effective communication concepts and techniques.
  • Accuracy and Attention to Detail: High level of precision in processing information.
  • Heart Function Monitoring: Knowledge of cardiac functions, arrhythmia detection, emergency response assistance.
  • Cardiac Testing: Ability to operate equipment for heart examination following protocols.
  • Echocardiogram Examination: Knowledge of principles and ability to perform echocardiograms for diagnostic purposes.
  • Medical Record Keeping: Skills in documenting patient information accurately.
  • Medical Equipment: Familiarity with healthcare devices and their proper use.

Minimum Education and Experience Requirements:

  • High school diploma and completion of a two-year accredited echocardiography or cardiovascular technology program.
  • At least 1 year of echocardiogram experience preferred.
