Job summary

U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs is seeking a Medical Instrument Technician - Diagnostic Ultrasound (Echocardiography) within the Cardiopulmonary Clinic.

The role involves conducting cardiac ultrasound exams, using multiple modalities to assess heart function, and supporting inpatient and clinic settings. Responsibilities include performing standardized and complex studies, generating diagnostic-quality images, and maintaining equipment and records.

Qualifications

• Knowledge of heart anatomy and physiology and great vessels.
• Knowledge of cardiac arrhythmias and hemodynamics.
• Knowledge of basic cardiac ultrasound physics and imaging.
• Ability to set up and adjust ultrasound equipment and perform standard procedures.
• Certification in BCLS desirable; ACLS desirable for higher levels.

Responsibilities

• Perform routine and complex echocardiographic examinations under supervision as needed.
• Produce diagnostic-quality images and Doppler data across modalities.
• Schedule/coordinate echocardiography exams and manage lab workflow.
• Maintain logs, records, and equipment servicing; oversee TEE probes.
• Train fellows in echocardiographic technique and interpretation.
