Job summary

Pulse Heart Institute in the MultiCare system seeks a skilled Echocardiographer to obtain high‑quality heart ultrasound recordings for cardiologists. This per diem, day shift position requires independence, initiative, and the ability to work under pressure.

The role involves performing studies, documenting findings, and maintaining equipment, with on‑call and overtime as needed. Prior echocardiography experience and valid BLS are preferred.

Qualifications

  • Current ARDMS or CCI registration, or enrollment in an ultrasound program with 12 months to obtain.
  • Current BLS certification.
  • Previous echocardiography experience preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Performs echocardiographic studies on patients.
  • Completes the echocardiography worksheet with quantitative data.
  • Performs clerical tasks: scheduling, phones, reporting, stocking, data entry, and charging.
  • Maintains ultrasound equipment and ensures quality checks.
  • Interprets cardiac anatomy and function to support the interpreting cardiologist.
  • Communicates effectively with patients, families, and staff.
  • Ability to work on-call hours, evenings, weekends, and overtime in emergencies.

Our team and state-of-the-art programs create a world-class health care organization and the destination center for cardiac, thoracic, and vascular care with complex structural heart disease and interventions, advanced heart failure service as well as advanced imaging with cutting edge technologies.

FTE: Per Diem .01, Shift: Days, Schedule: 10 hour shifts variable, as needed.

Position Summary

The Echocardiographer (cardiac sonographer) is responsible for obtaining high quality recordings of ultrasound images of the heart and related structures for the cardiologist who will interpret the examination. This is a technical position requiring a highly skilled operator with knowledge of the various types of ultrasound procedures. Work situations require clinical interpretive knowledge, independent judgment, initiative, and ingenuity in performing procedures. External contacts include patients, family members, and physicians. Internal contacts are basically within the work group.

Responsibilities
  • Performs echocardiographic studies on patients
  • Completes the echocardiography worksheet with quantitative calculations, measurements, and descriptive information acquired while performing the study on each patient
  • Performs clerical procedures, to include scheduling, answering phones, filing, notification of interpreting cardiologists, preliminary report circulation, material stocking, data basing, and charging
  • Performs cleaning and maintenance of ultrasound and other equipment
  • Knowledge of and a thorough understanding of the physical principles of ultrasound and ultrasound systems
  • Knowledge of cardiac abnormalities in order to produce diagnostic echocardiograms
  • Skill in the performance of the technique so as to produce complete anatomic and functional information for the interpreting cardiologist
  • Skill in making quantitative calculations from echocardiograph data obtained while performing the study
  • Skill in interacting and communicating with fellow employees, physicians and patients
  • Skill in the techniques of CPR
  • Skill in good oral, written and interpersonal communication, grammar and spelling
  • Ability to perform routine quality checks on ultrasound equipment
  • Ability to work efficiently under pressure
  • Ability to work independently and take initiative
  • Ability to set priorities and use good judgment
  • Ability to share on‑call hours evening and weekends and be able to work overtime in emergency situations
Requirements
  • Registered with the American Registry of Diagnostic Medical Sonographers or Cardiovascular Credentialing International; or Must be currently enrolled or have completed an ultrasound technology training program and obtain the American Registry of Diagnostic Medical Sonographers or Cardiovascular Credentialing International within 12 months from hire into the position
  • Previous experience as an Echocardiographer preferred
  • Current BLS required

Pay and Benefit Expectations

We provide a comprehensive benefits package, including competitive salary, medical, dental and retirement benefits and paid time off.

As required by various pay transparency laws, we share a competitive range of compensation for candidates hired into each position. The pay scale is $44.96 - $74.30 USD. However, pay is influenced by factors specific to applicants, including but not limited to: skill set, level of experience, and certification(s) and/or education. If this position is associated with a union contract, pay will be reflective of the appropriate step on the pay scale to which the applicant’s years of experience align.
