Job Title

Echo/Vascular Technologist Trainee

Overview

The Echo/Vascular Trainee receives on‑job training toward becoming a registered Echo/Vascular Technologist. The trainee performs Doppler ultrasound procedures under the supervision of a registered Echo/Vascular Technologist, learning to obtain accurate diagnostic images and apply critical thinking skills.

Key Responsibilities
  • Complete technical Doppler ultrasound procedures in accordance with organizational policies and professional standards.
  • Learn to perform quality exams, applying specialized knowledge and judgment to obtain accurate diagnostic images.
  • Review, obtain and record patient history and reason for examination, interpreting information to assess appropriateness of the ordered exam.
  • Tailor examinations to meet the specific needs of each patient.
  • Transport patients safely and assist with preparation while ensuring privacy and comfort.
  • Prepare a sterile field and assist the physician or radiologist during interventional procedures as required.
  • Operate equipment in compliance with specifications, selecting proper technical factors based on patient factors.
  • Demonstrate anatomy and adhere to department protocols, achieving competency in assessment, treatment, and patient care.
  • Prepare images for review, document preliminary findings on the sonography worksheet, and use necessary software applications.
  • Taken department call as assigned.
  • Engage in continuing education, staying current with technology, procedures, and protocols.
  • Adhere to policies, procedures, regulatory and accreditation requirements and provide excellent customer service consistent with core behaviors.
Essential Functions

All essential functions are performed under the supervision of a Registered Echo/Vascular Technologist.

Physical Demands
  • Sit frequently.
  • Stand and/or walk frequently.
  • Lift or carry up to 5 pounds over 100 feet frequently.
  • Push or pull 10 pounds frequently.
  • Bend, stoop, and crouch occasionally.
  • Reach from floor to shoulder height occasionally.
  • Maintain manual dexterity, eye‑hand coordination, and visual acuity within normal limits for age and gender.
  • Drive an automobile occasionally.
Minimum Qualifications
  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Meet one prerequisite for the SPI Examination from the American Registry for Diagnostic Medical Sonography (ARDMS). Refer to ARDMS.org/PrereqChart for details.
Credentials
  • State licensure: None required.
  • GPRMC Required/Preferred: BLS certification required.
