Job Overview
The Ultrasound Technologist is a certified medical professional who performs diagnostic ultrasound examinations on patients to help doctors diagnose conditions. This role works directly with patients, physicians, and other medical staff in a dynamic and professional environment.
Responsibilities
- Perform diagnostic ultrasound procedures using prescribed techniques.
- Generate and produce diagnostic images using two‑dimensional imaging, spectral and color flow Doppler, and other available techniques.
- Conduct echocardiography (cardiac ultrasound), vascular ultrasound, and general ultrasound examinations.
- Select the proper transducer and adjust equipment settings for accurate diagnostic testing.
- Explain procedures to patients and address their concerns.
- Enter test data and patient information into the computer system to maintain records.
- Generate detailed preliminary reports of findings and communicate STAT findings per organizational processes.
- Consent patients for procedures and ensure documentation is transferred to medical records.
- Assist physicians with ultrasound‑guided biopsies and/or invasive procedures.
- Maintain equipment according to manufacturer and industry standards, at least once a month.
- Monitor, record, and communicate usage of computerized documentation systems.
- Apply knowledge of age‑specific patient needs in performing duties.
- Influence and create SOPs for ultrasound best practices.
- Provide a safe environment for administering contrast material.
- Assist with transporting patients to and from rooms.
- Follow standard precautions using personal protective equipment as required.
- Travel to different office locations as needed.
- Perform other duties as assigned by the manager.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
- Current certification in Basic Life Support required.
- Customer‑service abilities, including effective listening skills.
- Critical‑thinking skills, decisive judgment, and the ability to work with minimal supervision in a fast‑paced environment.
- Willingness to travel locally or regionally up to 40% of the time.
- Ability to perform work that involves frequent standing, bending, reaching, squatting, kneeling, moving, and lifting patients or equipment up to50pounds.
Education & Experience
- Graduate of an accredited Ultrasound Technology program required.
- Bachelor’s degree in a health‑care related field preferred.
- Minimum of 6months of related work experience after internship/externship required.
- Preferred: A minimum of 2years of experience after internship/externship.
- Registered Diagnostic Cardiac Sonographer (RDCS) or Registered Cardiac Sonographer (RCS) required for echo cardiograms.
- Must be registered in the specific ultrasound modality they perform (e.g., vascular, general).
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification from the American Heart Association or American Red Cross required within the first 90days of employment.
Compensation
Pay range: $31.00 – $44.36 per hour. Final compensation will depend on experience, education, geographic location, and other factors. The position may be eligible for bonuses or commissions.
