Job summary

Mercyhealth in Wisconsin is seeking an Echo Technologist to perform echocardiograms and Doppler studies, assisting physicians with accurate imaging and patient comfort.

You will handle routine imaging, participate in on-call coverage, educate patients, document procedures, and help maintain equipment in a 40-hour, dayshift on-site role.

CPR/BLS within 90 days and RDCS/RCS within 1 year, plus an Associate or Bachelor’s degree, are required.

Qualifications

Associate Degree and/or Bachelor’s Degree, from an accredited program.
Approved CPR/BLS required within 90 days.
Registered Cardiac Sonographer (RCS) or RDCS within 1 year.

Responsibilities

Performs echocardiograms per standard imaging protocol and ASE standards.
Active work in Adult Echo/Stress/TEE/Call Coverage.
Notifies physician of abnormal EKG readings and manages arrhythmias.
Documents patient/procedural information in the medical record with high accuracy.
Educates patients and families about procedures and follow‑up.
Maintains equipment and coordinates supplies as needed.

Job description

OVERVIEW

Performs echocardiograms and Doppler studies to help physicians diagnose and evaluate heart conditions. Prepares and supports patients during exams, ensures quality imaging, maintains equipment, and follows safety standards. May work flexible hours, participate in on-call coverage, and assist with additional duties as needed.

Schedule: 40 hours per week

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Performs echocardiograms per standard imaging protocol, measures per ASE standards, provides appropriate and adequate procedures accurately providing high quality safe patient care.
Actively working consistently in Adult Echo/Stress/TEE/Call Coverage which may include some pediatric
Recognizes arrhythmias and/or takes appropriate action by notifying physician if EKG reads abnormal, acute MI, complete heart block, wide QRS, tachycardia or heart rate greater than 140.
Assess the quality of electrocardiographic and echocardiography recordings and corrects deficiencies whenever possible. If unable to correct deficiencies, documents on the graphic recording. Provides the physician with technical comments of diagnostic findings upon completion of the echocardiogram and reviews and discusses discrepancies of technical comments.
Documents patient and procedural information in the patient medical record completely including patient history form. Makes sure all charges are complete with 98% accuracy.
Educates the patient and family (as applicable) about the procedure and documents the process in the patient record.
Responds appropriately in emergency situations.
Utilizes equipment according to established procedures and refers to manuals, as needed. Properly notifies coordinator/manager of equipment requiring repair, notifies company and processes appropriate paperwork.
Ensures inventories and medical supplies are ordered or lets appropriate staff member know when supplies are low.
Assists with the orientation of new personnel and documents on orientation record.
Assists with data collection for the SQI program.
Attends minimum 70% of dept. educational programs and 70% of staff meetings. Attends all mandatory in-services or schedules makeup sessions. Assumes personal responsibility for own continuing education in order to maintain current knowledge in area of responsibility. Takes own initiative to maintain current CPR certification.

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE

Associate Degree and/or Bachelor’s Degree, from an accredited program

CERTIFICATION/LICENSURE

Approved CPR/BLS required within 90 days
Registered Cardiac Sonographer (RCS) through CCIor Registered Diagnostic Cardiac Sonographer (RDCS) through ARDMS within 1 year.

ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS

Passing the Driver’s License Check and/or Credit Check (for those positions requiring).

Passing the WI Caregiver Background Check and/or IL Health Care Workers Background Check.

Must be able to follow written/oral instructions.

OTHER SKILLS AND ABILITIES

Actively working consistently in Adult Echo/Stress/TEE/Call Coverage which may include some pediatric.

Must have good mathematical skills.

Structural heart experience preferred

PAY RANGE:
