Job description

Registered Echo Sonographer – PRN Day Shift

Job Details: PRN day shift. Fridays are a must as required. Requires coverage of vacation time off weeks Monday to Friday. No weekends or holidays; may require the day before and day after holidays as needed.

Responsibilities

• Interacts with co-workers, visitors, and other staff consistent with the values of Jefferson.
• Escorts patient from waiting area to examination room and reviews written history questionnaire.
• Explains the nature of the test to the patient.
• Performs 2D, M-mode, color Doppler echocardiograms according to department policy to comply with physician orders and standard of care.
• Performs trans‑esophageal echocardiograms (TEE) on non‑operative or intra‑operative basis according to department policy to comply with physician orders and standard of care.
• Performs dobutamine stress echocardiograms (DSE) and other stress echocardiograms according to department policy to comply with physician orders and standards of care.
• Logs all pertinent patient/test data to ensure accurate billing and record keeping for the hospital and department.
• Monitors performance/repair of clinical equipment to ensure the quality of all testing and the safety of staff and internal/external customers.
• Maintains images in the electronic health record (EHR).
• Cleans, disinfects, and sterilizes clinical equipment to ensure staff and customers are safe from pathogens.
• Participates in on‑call as per department policy.
• Performs other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Education: Required high school diploma and completion of a two‑year echocardiography training program accredited by the Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs (CAAHEP) or a cardiovascular technology program accredited by CAAHEP.

Experience: Preferred echocardiogram experience.

• Heart function monitoring – knowledge of the heart’s major functions and activities, ability to detect arrhythmias, recognize emergency conditions, and assist physicians in emergency responses.
• Cardiac testing – knowledge and ability to use various equipment to examine the heart’s function and anatomy according to organizational protocols.
• Echocardiogram examination – knowledge of the principles of echocardiography and the ability to perform echocardiograms and other cardiac ultrasound procedures for diagnostic evaluation.
• Medical record keeping – knowledge of processes and procedures for documenting patient information from intake to archiving.
• Medical equipment – knowledge of common types of equipment or devices used in healthcare and the ability to use them in patient care.

Licenses & Certifications

• Required: Basic Life Support (BLS) – American Heart Association (AHA).
