Job summary

Valley Baptist Health System in Brownsville, TX, is seeking a dedicated Echo Tech to perform and monitor echocardiograms and related diagnostics. The role involves calculating and documenting test values with physicians and coordinating with nursing and ancillary staff.

The position requires graduation from an accredited sonography program or at least 6 months of clinical experience, with registry eligibility and BLS certification. RDMS/RDCS/RCS are preferred.

Qualifications

  • Formal education in diagnostic medical sonography or equivalent.
  • Clinical experience of at least 6 months is required.
  • Registry eligibility and BLS certification required; RDMS/RDCS/RCS preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Perform echocardiograms using departmental protocol.
  • Assist with TEE and stress testing; provide diagnostic images.
  • Identify problems and report critical values promptly.
  • Prioritize studies based on acuity and coordination with care teams.
  • Provide EKG and Holter services when workload allows.
  • Acquire EKG leads with proper placement and minimal artifact.

Job Summary

The Echo Tech performs and monitors echocardiogram (cardiac ultrasound) procedures. Calculates, measures, and documents appropriate values on the tests performed for review and interpretation by physicians. Communicates with physicians, managers, and co‑workers as appropriate about changes in patient’s clinical conditions while undergoing echocardiogram.

Responsibilities
  • Performs Echocardiograms using a departmental protocol for obtaining images.
  • Assists with TEE’s and stress testing, providing images that support the physician’s ability to diagnose patients appropriately.
  • Identifies problems and implements appropriate interventions, including reporting critical values.
  • Sets priorities for completion of studies based on acuity, patient preference, and/or coordination of care with nursing and other ancillary services.
  • Provides EKG and Holter Services when Echo workload permits.
  • Obtains EKGs that reflect appropriate lead placement, minimal artifact, and correct patient information.
  • Sets up and scans Holter Monitors, providing tracings that support the physician’s ability to diagnose patients appropriately.
Qualifications

Education: Graduate of an accredited CAAHEP or diagnostic medical sonography school, or at least 6 months of clinical experience.

Experience: Required: 6 months in a clinical setting. Preferred: 2 years.

Certification: Required: Registry eligible and AHA BLS. Preferred: RDMS, RDCS, or RCS.
