Job summary

Naples Comprehensive Health (NCH) is seeking an Echo Sonographer-Registry-Eligible to join our diagnostic imaging team in Naples, Florida. The role involves performing Transthoracic Echocardiograms 2-D and M-mode, maintaining accurate records, and supporting physicians with routine and specialized studies.

Candidates must be registry-eligible (RDMS/RDCS/RCS) and have completed an accredited CVT or echocardiography program or an Associate's degree in natural science.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED required.
• Must have completed an accredited CVT program, echocardiography program, OR Associates Degree with an emphasis on natural science.
• Must be registry-eligible under one of the following agencies: RDMS, RDCS, or RCS.
• Must obtain licensure within 2 years of employment.
• Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required from recognized bodies.
• Basic computer knowledge: Word, Excel, Outlook, and Windows.

Responsibilities

• Performs Transthoracic Echocardiogram 2-D and M-mode according to lab protocol.
• Measures and documents all M-Mode and Doppler studies.
• Operates ultrasound machine and assists the physician during TEE procedure.
• Cleans and disinfects probes according to lab policy.
• Maintains accurate patient records and daily logs.
• Takes call in rotation and supports departmental activities.

Job Summary

The Echo Sonographer-Registry-Eligible performs procedures in lab or special care areas assisting the physician as required in assigned capacities. Acquires accurate records and patient data on regular and specialized studies. Reviews and compiles clinical data in accordance with departmental protocols & deadlines for physician interpretation of echo records. Prepares thorough technical reports including all required measurements. Recognizes and accurately reports any hospital approved abbreviations occurring during the test. Demonstrates thorough knowledge of diagnostic ultrasound equipment and makes adjustments as necessary to acquire images. Keeps equipment clean and in operating conditions at all times. Adheres to hospital infection control standards. Performs all departmental operational duties including managing patient orders, documenting all patient tests and log books, files & retrieves medical record, and collecting data, participating in regular case reviews and maintaining lab protocols. Performs all other duties as assigned including helping to train/orient new staff. Requires minimal supervision.

Essential Duties And Responsibilities

• Performs Transthoracic Echocardiogram 2-D and M-mode according to lab protocol.
• Measures and documents all M-Mode and Doppler studies.
• Performs routine Color, Pulse and Continuous Wave Doppler.
• Operates ultrasound machine & assists the physician during TEE procedure.
• Cleans and disinfects TEE probes according to lab policy and manufacturer recommendations.
• Performs Echocardiogram during exercise and/or pharmacological studies according to lab protocol.
• Accurately demonstrates the need for contrast agents and assists the nursing staff (as well as independently) in preparing lab approved contrast agents.
• When trained & approved, injects approved contrast agents independently according to lab policy.
• Accurate documentation of daily patient log.
• Accurate completion of departmental forms and technical reports.
• All written documentation is legible.
• Places new orders and/or modifies patient orders in CareNet. Documents all patient care activities in the CareNet System.
• Demonstrates competency in all procedures within scope of practice, as appropriate to the ages of patients served.
• Participates in data collection within department in accordance with PI objectives.
• Actively participates in the departmental case review process and assists the lab in meeting ICAEL guidelines.
• Takes call in rotation and responds to pages appropriately.
• Maintains a clean and safe environment.
• Checks Cidex solution on a regular basis, changes Cidex as required and documents checks and changes in the departmental log book.
• Maintains accurate patient records to include VCR tape storage and patient filing.
• Meets and exceeds the expectations of patients and all other customers we serve.
• Actively assists and supports departmental activities to ensure that operational and salary expenses are equal to or less than approved budget.
• Understands the principles and concepts of Performance Improvement. Looks for opportunities and solutions for process improvements and seeks to improve job skills.
• Communication: utilizes verbal and written communication to address patient, employee, physician, and visitor needs.
• Time Management: Completes all work prior to the end of the shift. Asks for assistance when needed.
• Demonstrates flexibility by routinely floating between NCH Downtown Campus and North Naples Campus.

Education, Experience And Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED required.
• Must have completed an accredited CVT program, echocardiography program, OR Associates Degree with an emphasis on natural science.
• Must have registry-eligible under one of the following agencies:
• R.D.M.S.-Registered Diagnostic Medical Sonographer with a specialty in Cardiology.
• R.D.C.S.-Registered Diagnostic Cardiac Sonographer
• R.C.S.-Registered Cardiac Sonographer
• Must obtain licensure within 2 years of employment.
• Must have demonstrated aptitude of computer and keyboard function with medical applications.
• Must have extensive knowledge of cardiac anatomy, physiology and pathology. Must have ability to prioritize and effectively perform under stressful situations. Must have ability to provide care and consideration for patients/families and to effectively deal with other staff and public.
• Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required from the American Red Cross or American Heart Association.
