Job summary

SSM Health St. Joseph Hospital – St. Charles is seeking an Echo Sonographer to perform diagnostic echocardiography on adult and pediatric patients in a PRN as needed role.

You will perform procedures, ensure high-quality images for PACS, and monitor patient safety while maintaining equipment. Completion of an EchoSonography program is required; no prior experience is necessary; BLS and certifications are preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Perform appropriate diagnostic procedures, record patient test results, and report findings.
  • Monitor patient comfort and safety during tests; alert physicians to abnormalities or changes.
  • Maintain adequate supplies and verify all equipment is in proper working condition; report deficiencies and failures.
  • Position patients and select anatomic and technical parameters accurately.
  • Ensure all activities comply with regulatory agency standards.
  • Ensure prompt submission of high‑quality images and documents to PACS (image quality, correct lead markers, patient data/history).
  • Assist in maintaining a clean and orderly department, including procedure rooms, storage areas, dressing rooms, film storage area, and other departmental areas.
  • Work in a constant state of alertness and safety.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Job Summary

Performs diagnostic procedures to assess cardiac structures and hemodynamics in accordance with accepted protocols, performing both adult and pediatric echosonography.

Responsibilities
  • Perform appropriate diagnostic procedures, record patient test results, and report findings
  • Monitor patient comfort and safety during tests; alert physicians to abnormalities or changes
  • Maintain adequate supplies and verify all equipment is in proper working condition; report deficiencies and failures

Education & Experience
  • Completion of an EchoSonography program
  • No prior experience required
Physical Requirements
  • Constant standing and walking
  • Frequent use of vision and depth perception for distances near (≤20 inches) and far (≥20 feet)
  • Frequent use of hearing and speech to share information orally
  • Frequent lifting/carrying/pushing/pulling objects weighing 0–25 lbs
  • Frequent lifting/moving of patients
  • Frequent reaching, gripping, and keyboard use/data entry
  • Occasional lifting/carrying/pushing/pulling objects weighing 25–50 lbs
  • Occasional use of vision to identify colors
  • Occasional bending, stooping, squatting, twisting, and repetitive foot/leg and hand/arm movements
  • Rare kneeling and sitting
Required Professional Licenses and Certifications
  • Basic Life Support Health Care Provider (BLS HCP) – American Heart Association (AHA)
  • Registered Cardiac Sonographer (RCS) – Cardiovascular Credentialing International (CCI)
  • Registered Congenital Cardiac Sonographer (RCCS) – Cardiovascular Credentialing International (CCI)
  • Registered Diagnostic Cardiac Sonographer (RDCS) with Adult Echocardiography (AE) Specialty – American Registry for Diagnostic Medical Sonography (ARDMS)
  • Registered Diagnostic Cardiac Sonographer (RDCS) with Pediatric Echocardiography (PE)
