Echo/Cardiac Sonographer, Wage – UVA Health

Jobs in this family are responsible for performing diagnostic and therapeutic imaging procedures to support patient care, clinical research, and medical education. These roles utilize advanced imaging technologies—such as X-rays, MRI, CT scans, ultrasound, nuclear medicine, and interventional radiology—to produce high-quality images that aid in the diagnosis, monitoring, and treatment of medical conditions. The focus of this position is on ultrasound technology to create images of the body’s internal structures (organs, tissues, blood vessels) for diagnosing and monitoring various medical conditions.

Responsibilities generally involve diagnosing, treating, and caring for patients, often with face‑to‑face interactions. Clinical programs, policies, and services may be designed and implemented using specialized knowledge and skills. Routine job procedures are performed under moderate supervision.

Minimum Requirements
  • Education: Must meet the education requirement for diagnostic medical ultrasound or echocardiography ultrasound certification with either CCI or ARDMS. Associate’s degree preferred.
  • Experience: Minimum of 2 years of clinical experience required.
  • License/Certification: Registered Vascular Technologist certification required within 12 months of hire. ARDMS or ARRT (S) certification required.
  • AHA Health Care Provider BLS certification required.

Physical Demands
Job requires standing for prolonged periods, frequently bending/stooping, and reaching (overhead, extensive, repetitive). Repetitive motion (computer keyboard). Proficient communicative, auditory, and visual skills. Attention to detail and ability to write legibly. Ability to lift/push/pull 50–100 lbs. Possible exposure to cold, dust, noise, radiation, blood/body fluids, and infectious disease.

Position Compensation Range: $31.98 – $51.17 hourly.
