Clay County School System is seeking an Early Childhood Classroom Assistant Teacher (ECCAT) to support the classroom under a licensed teacher. The role focuses on individualized instruction, student supervision, and basic classroom operations to maintain a safe learning environment.

Salary based on experience and education level per Clay County Board of Education Salary Schedule, plus competitive benefits package equal to approximately 35% of direct compensation paid for with the Elementary Alternative Discipline Pilot Grant and county funds, if needed.

Personnel employed who do not possess the minimum requirements for the permanent authorization requirements, but are enrolled in and pursuing requirements. Under W.Va. Code§18-5-18, personnel employed in these positions must be employed to work in a kindergarten program (which includes pre-kindergarten).
Personnel who have completed the minimum requirements for a state-awarded certificate (permanent authorization) for early childhood classroom assistant teachers that meet or exceed the requirements for a child development associate. Equivalency for the West Virginia Department of Education will be determined as the child development associate or the West Virginia Apprenticeship for Child Development Specialists. Under W.Va. Code§18-5-18, personnel employed in these positions must be employed to work in a kindergarten program (which includes pre-kindergarten).

ECCATs must complete or have completed additional WVDE coursework in the science of reading, numeracy, and classroom management as outlined in HB 3035. Newly-hired ECCATs and those who hold temporary authorization will complete the current WVDE-approved ECCAT coursework in conjunction with the additional coursework in the science of reading, numeracy, and classroom management as outlined in HB 3035. Licensure must reflect a PK-Grade 3 endorsement.
