Job Summary

Starting Date: Aug 17, 2026

This position supports disabled students in a permanent role, providing physical, academic, and emotional support to help them achieve their IEP goals and participate fully in the Exceptional Children’s program.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Assist classroom teachers with specific instructional and behavioral tasks to enhance student outcomes.
  • Work with individuals, small groups, or large groups as assigned.
  • Collect and record data for behavior modification plans and implement behavior plans.
  • Accompany students to assigned locations, lunch, transitions, and buses as needed.
  • Provide personal care assistance (restroom, hygiene, diapering, toileting, wash‑up routines).
  • Administer immediate first aid and medical assistance per healthcare professional guidance.
  • Collaborate with occupational and physical therapists to implement IEP‑specified equipment and interventions.
  • Move and operate adaptive equipment; assist students with electronic communications and devices.
  • Assist with mobility needs: lifting, positioning, wheelchair transfers, bus loading/unloading, transportation around school and on field trips.
  • Monitor students during assigned periods in various school environments to maintain a safe and positive learning environment.
  • Provide programmed practice activities and repetitions developed by the teacher, therapist, or pathologist.
  • Perform clerical tasks (copying, filing, collating) to support instructional preparation.
  • Follow the daily schedule outlined by teacher and administrator.
  • Maintain confidentiality of student and school personnel information.
  • Create a pleasant and orderly classroom environment; maintain records and files.
  • Drive a school bus route when required.
  • Perform any other duties as directed by the supervisor.
Job Qualifications

Associate's Degree or 48 approved semester hours from a regionally accredited institution.

Clearance, criminal background check, and references required.

Bus Driver: Must obtain and maintain a bus certification and license to drive a morning or evening route.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
  • Willingness to seek and maintain bus license.
  • Potential to serve as a substitute bus monitor.
  • Possible requirement to attend and obtain CPI (Crisis Prevention Institute) training and renewal.
  • Empathetic attitude toward disabled students.
  • Cooperative, positive teamwork approach.
  • Willingness to learn specialized instructional and management techniques.
  • Effective communication and relationship building with students, parents, and staff; maintaining confidentiality.
  • Ability to follow detailed written and oral instructions.
  • Ability to drive a school bus (required).
Physical Requirements
  • Frequent to significant walking, standing, sitting, kneeling, bending, reaching, pushing, pulling, stooping, lifting up to 30 pounds, and occasional lifting of equipment or students up to 90 pounds.
  • Occasional lifting, movement, and transferring of students.
  • Occasional use of wheelchairs and contact with bodily fluids.
  • Understanding of universal precaution measures and proper use of materials.
  • Regular contact and communication with staff and administration.
  • Drive a school bus route when needed.
Position Type

Full‑time (10 months); 37.5 hours per week; 5 days per week.
