Job summary

Gadsden Independent School District (NM) is seeking instructional assistants to support early childhood programs in alignment with New Mexico standards. Candidates must meet ParaPro or college-credit criteria and may assist home visits and family conferences while promoting Pre-K recruitment.

Responsibilities include assisting with instructional delivery, meeting developmental needs, coordinating parent events, and complying with all regulatory requirements.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED is required.
• An Associate Degree in Early Childhood Education or active enrollment toward that degree with specified semester credits is required.
• Bilingual ability is preferred.
• Refer to state-issued certificates, licenses and registrations as applicable.

Responsibilities

• Assist in implementing an instructional program meeting developmental needs (physical, cognitive, social, emotional).
• Assist with home visits and parent-teacher conferences.
• Comply with local, state, and federal regulations; promote Pre-K recruitment.
• Plan and attend parent meetings/events (Literacy Night, Family Math Night, Science Night).
• Supervise children in classroom and during off-site activities; work as part of a team.
• Attend required trainings; support program goals and objectives.

Education

Job description

Attention to all instructional assistant applicants

To qualify for instructional assistant positions, candidates must meet one of the following criteria:

• Passing score on the ParaPro exam (457)
• Minimum of 48 semester hours of college credit from a regionally accredited college or university, with at least 15 of those credits dedicated to language arts (3 hours), mathematics (3 hours), writing (3 hours), and reading, writing, math readiness, or professional education (6 hours).

Assist in the implementation of a voluntary, quality, Early Childhood program that aligns with the New Mexico Early Childhood Program Standards.

Follows National Association for the Education of Young Children’s Developmentally Appropriate Practice in Early Childhood Programs serving children from birth through eight years of age.

Assists the certified teacher in implementing an instructional program which meets the total developmental needs of children (e.g. physical, cognitive, social and emotional needs) and includes health care, nutrition, safety, and multicultural sensitivity.

Also, assists the certified teacher during home visits and parent teacher conferences.

Comply with local, state, and federal regulations

Promotes Pre-K education and assists in recruitment of students for Pre-K programming.

Assists the teacher in planning and implementing parent meetings and events such as "Literacy Night", "Family Math Night", "Science Night", etc.

Attend staff meetings and all required trainings and meetings

Participate in home visits and parent-teacher conferences

Assist in planning and attending parent involvement events

Support student recruitment and promotion of the Pre-K program

Communicate effectively with children, families, and colleagues

Help prepare and organize instructional materials

Supervise children in classroom and during off-site activities

Assists the teacher in supervising students while on site or on field trip(s).

Works as a team member to effectively facilitate the total operation of program goals and objectives.

Displays a desire and enthusiasm for working with young children.

Use time effectively; is punctual and has good attendance.

Performs other duties as assigned.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

• High school diploma or general education degree (GED) and
• Associate Degree in Early Childhood Education or
• Active enrollment in a degree plan toward an Associate Degree in Early Childhood Education, with completion of 6 credit hours in Fall and Spring semesters and submission of grades and schedules to the Program Director
• Bilingual Preferred

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS

• New Mexico Public Education Department Level III Educational Assistant License
• Must meet one of the following criteria:
  • A passing score on the ParaPro exam (457), OR

LANGUAGE SKILLS

Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of organization.
