Job summary

Samaritas is seeking a Master’s-level Substance Use Disorder Clinician to deliver person-centered behavioral health and addiction treatment within the Eaton County Jail and our Charlotte clinic.

The role blends jail-based work with outpatient care, requires an MSW or counseling degree, licensure, and provides opportunities for supervision and professional growth while supporting recovery in justice-involved individuals.

Qualifications

• Master’s degree in social work, counseling, or related field from an accredited institution.
• Fully licensed clinicians preferred; limited license candidates will be considered.
• Minimum one year of SUD counseling experience; two years preferred.
• Experience in a team-based or interdisciplinary environment preferred.

Responsibilities

• Deliver jail-based behavioral health and SUD treatment with correctional staff.
• Conduct comprehensive assessments and develop treatment plans.
• Provide individual counseling and facilitate groups for justice-involved individuals.
• Support crisis intervention and stabilization in the correctional setting.
• Maintain outpatient clinic caseload to support continuity of care.
• Assist with transition and reintegration into the community after release.
• Gain experience across correctional and outpatient settings.
• Maintain clinical documentation: service plans, notes, discharge summaries.
• Build referral sources through community outreach.
• Represent Samaritas’ mission with professionalism.
• Participate in supervision and trainings.
• Ensure compliance with QA and regulatory requirements.

Unique Opportunity – Eaton County Jail Program
As a Master’s Clinician specializing in Substance Use Disorder, you will deliver person-centered behavioral health and substance use treatment services within the Eaton County Jail and our clinic in Charlotte.

• Primarily deliver jail-based services in collaboration with correctional staff, probation officers, court personnel, and community partners.
• Conduct comprehensive assessments and develop individualized treatment plans.
• Provide individual counseling and facilitate therapeutic groups for justice-involved individuals.
• Support crisis intervention and stabilization efforts within the correctional environment.
• Maintain a smaller outpatient clinic caseload to promote continuity of care and ongoing recovery support.
• Help individuals begin and sustain recovery during incarceration.
• Assist clients with successful transition and reintegration into the community upon release.
• Gain diverse clinical experience across correctional and outpatient behavioral health settings.
• Make a meaningful impact on the lives of individuals affected by mental health and substance use challenges.
• Provide individual and family therapy as well as case management support
• Maintain timely and accurate clinical documentation, including service plans, progress notes, and discharge summaries
• Monitor treatment quality and assess effectiveness in achieving client goals
• Conduct community outreach, networking, and marketing to build referral sources and partnerships
• Represent Samaritas’ mission and values with professionalism and integrity
• Participate in team meetings, clinical supervision, and organizational trainings
• Ensure compliance with quality assurance standards and regulatory requirements

Professional Growth

• Stay current with licensing and accreditation standards
• Participate in ongoing training, conferences, and peer supervision opportunities
• Continuously build clinical expertise and enhance professional skills
• Clinical supervision is available for LLMSWs and other limited licensed clinicians working toward full licensure.

Education and Licensure

• Master’s degree in social work, counseling, or a related field from an accredited institution
• Fully licensed clinicians preferred; limited license candidates will be considered

Experience

• Minimum one year of SUD counseling experience preferred
• Two years of clinical experience working with substance use populations preferred
• Experience working in a team-based or interdisciplinary environment preferred
• Familiarity with SUD documentation standards preferred

Additional Requirements

• Valid driver’s license with a clean driving record
• Proof of automobile insurance
