Job summary

Eastern Airlines is seeking a Captain to lead flight operations, ensuring safety and adherence to SOPs while managing crew and passengers. The ideal candidate has 7,000+ flight hours, 2,000+ PIC hours on multi-crew aircraft, and holds an FAA ATP with a valid medical certificate.

Travel and diverse shifts are part of the role. Applicants must be able to work in the United States and possess a passport; experience on wide-body fleets is preferred.

Qualifications

  • 7000+ hours total flight time with turboprop and/or turbojet time.
  • 2000+ hours PIC on multi-crew, multi-engine aircraft.
  • Wide-body PIC experience preferred (B767/B777).
  • FAA ATP certificate and valid FAA Class One Medical.
  • Passport and ability to work in the United States.

Responsibilities

  • Command flight crew, passengers and cargo; ensure safe operation and SOP adherence.
  • Balance safety concerns with flight efficiency; lead crew decisions.
  • Maintain aircraft documentation, logs and maintenance communications.
  • Provide flight briefings and ensure proper passenger and crew briefing.

General

This position offers a minimum guarantee of 72 hours per month and reports directly to the Chief Pilot. The ideal candidate will be type-rated on multi-engine aircraft, with preference given to those rated on the B-767/757 or B-777. A valid first-class medical certificate is required. The successful candidate must demonstrate a comprehensive understanding of all applicable Federal Aviation Regulations (FARs). Strong communication skills are essential, and the individual must embody the company’s values and culture while collaborating with team members and customers in a fast-paced, dynamic environment.

Duties and Responsibilities
  • The Captain will have command of, and the responsibility for, the flight crew, passengers, cargo, the safe conduct of the flight, and provide guidance and coordinate the activities of every individual connected with all phases of the aircraft operation. They are expected to adhere to Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and will evaluate input from all crew members when making critical decisions.
  • Eastern Airlines promotes the exercise of crew resource management. Specifically, although the Captain is the final authority while onboard the aircraft, the First Officer is encouraged to voice any concerns regarding the Captain’s decisions. With respect to flight safety matters, the first officer will continue voicing concerns until satisfied that the safety of a flight is no longer in question.
  • The Captain reports to the ChiefPilot, indirectly to the Director of Operations, and maintainsahighlevelofknowledgeofFAARegulations,Company Manuals, OpSpecs, aircraft flight manuals, and other duty- based instructions.The Captain’s duties and responsibilitiesare:
  • He/she retains the final authority for the safe operation of the aircraft.
  • DirecttheactivitiesoftheFirstOfficerensuringflightcrewmembers understand fully and completely what duties they are expected to perform.
  • Ensure the assigned aircraft is airworthy and all proper documents are on board the aircraft.
  • Make decisions as necessary to the start, delay or initiate the cancellation of the flight, or deviation from a planned destination when operating conditions dictate.
  • Ensure the proper amount and grade of fuel is loaded onto the aircraft.
  • Obtain a briefing on the purpose of the flight, weather, operating procedures, any special instructions, andcoordinates flight assignments.
  • Provide immediate notificationto the SOC of any deviation from flight plan, including:
  • Adetailed description of the deviationincluding date, time, location, aircraft number, Captain name, etc.
  • The reason(s) for the deviation.
  • Conduct thorough review oftheflight plan, considering such factors as altitude, terrain, weather, range, weight, airport facilities and navigational aids.
  • Ensure weather and aircraft performance conditions can be met appropriate to the CFR under which the flight is being conducted.
  • Ensuretheflightplanorotherauthorizedflightlocatingprocedureis followed on each flight.
  • Ensure the aircraft weight andbalance form / manifest is properly completed, signed and distributed.
  • ReportallknownorsuspectedFAAviolationsorincidentspromptly to the Chief Pilot, Director of Operations, or designee.
  • Maintain a current First-Class medical certificate andnotifythe Director of Operations, Chief Pilot,ordesignee, ifamedical(physicalormental)conditionimpairshis/herabilityto perform the flight.
  • Ensure the VHF Omni directional Range (VOR) checks and other aircraft equipment are performed properly.
  • Ensure crewmembers provide allpassengers with the appropriate briefing for each phase of flight.
  • Ensure required equipment plus provisions for passenger comfort are aboard and that all cargo is properly secured.
  • Ensure the preparation of flight logs, reporting of mechanical irregularities, and the recording of maintenance by maintenance personnel when maintenance is performed.
  • Ensure all maintenancewrite-ups are passed to the maintenance personnel and maintenance is alerted to thecurrent status of the aircraft.
  • Determine the applicability of the regulations to each flight.
  • Ensurethat all required Aircraft and Pilot manuals are available and updated to current revision (hardcopy or EFB).
  • Determine the flight crew areadequately rested and in proper dress.
  • Ensure the aircraft is clean andprepared for flight with all aircraft stores and appropriate provisions on board for the safety and comfort of passengers and crew.
  • Operate aircraft at favorable altitudes takinginto account turbulence, oxygenrequirements, and comfort of passengers during flight.
  • At the end of each flight-day, pilots will either enter flight- and duty- time into the Company’s computer tracking system or willcall the Aircraft Dispatcher for assistance to enter times.
  • Maintains radio or telephone contact with the SOC frequently enough during the course of a flight toensure operational messages are promptly conveyed between the flightcrew and the base.
  • TheCaptainmaydelegatefunctionstootherpersonnelbutdoingsowill not delegate the responsibility for those functions.
Minimum Qualifications
  • Minimum of 7000 hours total flying time – only time in the operating seat of a turboprop and/or turbojet aircraft can be counted.
  • Minimum of 2000 hours PIC time on multi-crew, multi-engine, commercial aircraft.
  • Previous experience must include wide-body aircraft PIC time, preferably on the B767 or B777.
  • A valid FAA ATP
  • A valid FAA Class One Medical
  • A Restricted Radiotelephone Operator Permit.
  • Fluency in English
  • Valid US Driver’s License
  • Passport allowing travel worldwide.
  • Must be authorized to work in the United States.
  • Must have at least 1,000 hours flight time under Part 121 operations.
  • Ability to multitask and work under pressure in a dynamic environment.
  • Bids work schedule by seniority (days, swings, or midnight shifts, holidays)
  • Travel will be required.
  • Pass pre-employment DOT drug and alcohol test
  • Pass CHRC (Criminal History Records Check)
  • Must posses a valid U.S. Passport, not to expire within 6 (six) months
  • English proficiency consistent with at least ICAO Level 4 Endorsement
  • Eligible to work in the United States.
