Overview

HDR is seeking an East Region Mining Practice Lead who is a Seller/Doer with a focus on Technical Leadership, Project Management, Program Building, Staff Growth, and Business Development. The role supports HDR’s mining clients on greenfield and brownfield projects related to permitting, design, and operations. Key responsibilities include technical leadership to guide project teams on approach, requirements, and scope, and leading projects to successful completion while monitoring status and communicating with HDR operations leadership. The position also involves expanding program service offerings within the East Region through area and national teams, as well as training and mentoring newer mining team members. Client interaction is required, along with strong verbal and written communication with clients and internal staff. The ideal candidate will have strong relationships and significant experience winning and executing mining projects in sectors such as construction materials, industrial minerals, metals, phosphates, etc. The role also includes recruiting personnel to grow the Mining Practice in the East Region and expanding service offerings and capabilities in the region.

Responsibilities
  • Project management, technical support, and program building; guide project teams on approach, requirements, and scope; monitor and communicate project status with HDR leadership; onboard multi-disciplinary local and remote team members to support pursuits and projects.
  • Expand the program service offerings within the East Region through area and national teams; train and mentor new mining team members.
  • Client interaction throughout the project lifecycle; develop technical value and positioning during proposals and through project completion; collaborate with project teams, business development leadership, marketing staff, and operations leadership.
  • Recruit personnel to grow the Mining Practice in the East Region and expand service offerings/capabilities in the region.
  • Serve as an active member of local and regional organizations, present at industry events, mentor project teams, and collaboratively develop proposals within the region.
Qualifications
  • Preferred Qualifications: Bachelor’s degree in mining engineering, civil engineering, chemical engineering, or related discipline; Professional Engineer (PE) in at least one state (multiple states preferred).
  • Minimum of 15 years related industry experience; minimum of 10 years mining project management experience.
  • Experience in managing mining projects to successful conclusions (on budget, on schedule, with solid safety and quality records).
  • Familiarity with multiple commodities, soft and hard-rock mining operations, studies, design, and execution from exploration to closure, including greenfields and brownfields.
  • Ability to lead a team on projects; strong planning, communication, and mentoring skills.
  • Excellent competence in Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Project; MSHA certification; open pit and underground mining experience; mine software experience for block modeling; experience working for a mine operating company.
  • Open to other qualifications as applicable to mining project leadership.
  • Required Qualifications: Bachelor’s degree in a Professional, Architecture, Engineering, or closely related field; 10 years experience in related field; professional registration; experience in development and management of diverse teams; ability to work cooperatively with regional directors, operations managers, technical directors, and marketing managers; commitment to quality, HDR values; active participation in HDR\'s employee-owned culture.
