What does Brice Construction & Design LLC do?

Brice Construction & Design, Inc. is a proud subsidiary of the Calista Corporation, an Alaska Native Corporation (ANC). Brice offers construction services in every phase of the construction cycle and works to hire tradesmen directly from the communities where projects are located to leverage local knowledge and relationships.

Role overview

You will supervise and coordinate mass excavation, detailed excavation, grading, site prep, TopCon and basic GPS setup, and machine troubleshooting. You will manage construction crews by directing work, reviewing schedules, ensuring work follows plan specifications, and planning equipment needs. You will enforce the company’s direction, policies, procedures, and safety standards.

Responsibilities
  • Execute work plans and schedules in accordance with contract requirements, plans, and specifications.
  • Coordinate daily tasks according to priorities and plans, adjusting for weather, supply, delivery, and personnel needs.
  • Provide resources and staffing to meet project schedules, laws, regulations, best practices, and safety needs.
  • Provide regular project status reports to supervisors, site engineers, and other officials.
  • Coordinate materials and equipment delivery with vendors and suppliers.
  • Create schedules for workers and subcontractors.
  • Maintain a daily log for the job site’s operations and report to management as necessary.
  • Maintain accurate reporting records including job quantities, productivity rates, time sheets, and daily management reports.
  • Ensure timely completion of work within estimated costs.
  • Continuously check the work of the crew and adjust the plan as required with notification to project management staff.
  • Assist with various skilled trades and general construction duties as part of the crew leader role.
  • Ensure adherence to field project processes and standard operating procedures among team members.
  • Oversee the work of the project crew, including training and developing crew, providing leadership, promoting morale and safety, and ensuring safety practices are followed.
  • Report any incident or activity that may affect safety, ethics, or profitability to the Field Civil Superintendent or Site Project Manager.
  • Ensure projects are executed safely according to contract specifications; actively support the Company’s Health and Safety Program; stay apprised of on-site safety audits; suspend or modify work practices as necessary; verify safety equipment is used.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
  • Comprehensive knowledge and expertise in skilled carpentry/structural work and ability to mentor junior staff.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication to convey information and provide feedback.
  • Ability to adapt to changing circumstances and adjust plans to ensure project success.
  • Strong problem-solving and decision-making skills with innovative thinking.
  • Team player with the ability to work with diverse personalities.
  • Basic knowledge of Microsoft Office; proficiency in Word, Excel, and Outlook.
  • Strong writing ability to communicate clearly in writing.
Required Qualifications
  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Minimum of five years of experience in the civil construction field.
  • Minimum of three years of experience supervising a construction crew as a Foreman or Lead.
  • Valid state driver’s license and ability to operate a vehicle under the company policy.
  • Ability to pass drug, driving, and background screening.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Knowledge of scheduling, material control, unit manhour performance, estimating fundamentals, and job cost management systems.
  • Experience with excavation and earthwork management.
  • OSHA 30-hour training preferred.
  • Experience in federal government projects is highly desired.
