Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory’s Earth System Sciences Department is seeking an Earth System Sciences postdoctoral fellow to support two DOE-funded projects, HyperFORMANCE and CASCADE.

The two-year position, split equally between the projects, involves interdisciplinary collaboration with scientists, statisticians, social scientists, and stakeholders and opportunities to co-mentor students. The role requires experience in Earth system modeling, HPC, and data analysis.

Formación

• Ph.D. in Atmospheric Science, Hydrologic Science, Earth System Science, Physics, or related field.
• Experience with supercomputing environments (NERSC Perlmutter, NWSC Derecho).
• Programming in Python, C, and Bash/Shell scripting.
• Research in mountainous water cycle and land–atmosphere processes.
• Ability to set up and run Earth system model simulations (E3SM/CESM).
• Strong communication skills for diverse audiences.
• Ability to manage multiple research goals within a team.

Responsabilidades

• Run Earth system model simulations (e.g., E3SM) on HPC systems.
• Analyze model outputs to study hydrometeorological extremes.
• Develop computational and statistical methods to evaluate simulations.
• Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams to meet project objectives.
• Present findings at conferences and in journals.
