Job description

NASA Postdoctoral Program

The NASA Postdoctoral Program (NPP) offers unique research opportunities to highly talented scientists to engage in ongoing NASA research projects at a NASA Center, NASA Headquarters, or a NASA‑affiliated research institute. These fellowships range from one to three years and focus on advancing NASA’s missions in space science, Earth science, aeronautics, space operations, exploration systems, and astrobiology.

Position Overview

Research focus on Earth’s fluid outer core: core dynamics and geomagnetic data assimilation system development, geodynamo and planetary dynamo simulations, core‑mantle interactions, Earth’s rotational and gravitational variations, geomagnetic secular variation prediction, and numerical algorithm development.

Location

Goddard Space Flight Center, Greenbelt, Maryland.

Field of Science

Earth Science.

Eligibility Requirements

Doctoral degree in a relevant discipline.

U.S. Citizens, U.S. Lawful Permanent Residents, Foreign Nationals eligible for an Exchange Visitor J‑1 visa status, or applicants for LPR, asylees, or refugees in the U.S. with a valid EAD card and pending I‑485 or I‑589 forms.

Applications from citizens of designated countries are not accepted unless the applicant is a legal permanent resident.

Research Responsibilities
  • Core dynamics and geomagnetic data assimilation system development.
  • Conduct geodynamo and planetary dynamo simulations.
  • Study core‑mantle interactions and Earth’s rotational and gravitational variations.
  • Predict geomagnetic secular variation.
  • Develop relevant numerical algorithms.
Application Deadline

November 1, 2026, 6:00:59 PM Eastern Time Zone.
