Job summary

WSP is seeking an Early Career Civil Transportation Engineer for our Tacoma, WA office to participate in design, development and construction of transportation projects. You will support project delivery, engage in data collection, and help prepare designs using CAD tools and standard documentation.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Civil Engineering or related discipline.
  • 0 to 1 years of relevant post-education experience.
  • Proficient self-leadership with attention to detail, multi-tasking and prioritization of responsibilities in a dynamic environment.
  • Ability to work independently under general supervision, as well as part of a team to meet business objectives.
  • Basic proficiency with Word, Excel, Outlook, Teams and PowerPoint.
  • Occasional travel may be required.

Responsibilities

  • Assist and support design teams in the execution of project delivery.
  • Provide technical input during various stages of project, including preliminary design, final design and contract documentation including cost estimates and specifications.
  • Perform basic design tasks and drawings using CAD tools to develop conceptual transportation projects in AutoCAD, Civil 3D, InRoads/OpenRoads and/or MicroStation.
  • Perform standard computations and analysis.
  • Discuss and propose solutions to technical issues.
  • Collect data and gather information or documents.
  • Attend design meetings and coordinate with team members.
  • Develop memorandums and other written technical documents.
  • Maintain positive team relationships.
  • Assist and coordinate with key staff across disciplines as required.
  • Perform additional responsibilities as required by business needs.

Job Description

WSP is currently initiating a search for a full-time, Early Career Civil Transportation Engineer for our Tacoma, WA office. Be involved in projects with our Pacific Mountain West Transportation Engineering Team and be a part of a growing organization that meets our client's objectives and solves their challenges. Take part in providing local technical assistance for the design, development, and construction of infrastructure projects and systems in the public and private sector. Tasks may include basic assistance with the research, design, concept development, and construction of transportation civil infrastructure. Work with a team to generate accurate and concise documentation regarding assigned aspects of the project. Deliver work product meeting acceptable industry standards for design, safety, and functionality.

Your Impact

Who You Are

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Civil Engineering, or closely related discipline.
  • 0 to 1 years of relevant post education experience.
  • Competent interpersonal and communication skills when interacting with others.
  • Proficient self-leadership with attention to detail, multi-tasking, and prioritization of responsibilities in a dynamic work environment.
  • Ability to work independently under general supervision, as well as part of a team to meet business objectives.
  • Basic proficiency with technical writing, software, technology, and tools including Word, Excel, Outlook, Teams and PowerPoint
  • Ability to work schedules conducive to project-specific requirements that may extend beyond the typical workweek.
  • Uphold workplace safety and abide by WSP’s health, safety and drug/alcohol and harassment policies.
  • Exercise responsible and ethical decision-making regarding company funds, resources and conduct, and adhere to WSP’s Code of Conduct and related policies and procedures.
  • Occasional travel may be required depending on project-specific requirements.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Engineer in Training Certification.
  • Familiarity with discipline-specific design software (i.e., MicroStation, AutoCAD, Civil 3D, ArcGIS, InRoads).
  • Prior internship related to the degree of study and the specific engineering discipline.
  • A member of and/or actively participate in local professional practice organizations.
Compensation And Benefits

Expected Salary: $65,600 - $82,000

WSP USA is providing the compensation range and general description of other compensation and benefits that the company in good faith believes it might pay and/or offer for this position based on the successful applicant’s education, experience, knowledge, skills, and abilities in addition to internal equity and geographic location.
