Job summary

Cedar Rapids Community School District is seeking a part-time Paraeducator to support preschool students under supervision. The role involves supervising children, assisting with learning activities, and addressing health and self-help needs.

Requirements include at least 12 ECE credits, a current CDA credential, and two years of post-secondary education or a paraeducator certificate. CPR/first aid is required.

Responsibilities

  • Supervise students in early childhood settings.
  • Work with students individually or in small groups under staff guidance.

  • Be available for student needs including health, toileting, behavior, and self-help skills.
  • Attend district workshops and trainings to learn about early childhood education.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Principal Duties
  • Supervise students.
  • Under the direction of professional staff work with students individually or in group settings.
  • Consistently monitor student's learning and behaviors.
  • Be available for any student need including health, toileting, behavior, and self help skills.
  • To attend district workshops and trainings in order to continue learning about Early Childhood Education.
  • Other duties as assigned.
Classification
  • Teacher Associates
  • Three hours (3) per day
  • 4 days per week: Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday
  • $16.25/hr

Preparation, Experience, Skills
  • Must have at least 12 credit hours in early childhood education, a current CDA credential, two years post secondary education or Paraeducator certificate.
  • Required to obtain pediatric first aid and CPR.
  • Willingness to assume responsibility.
  • Ability to work well with others.
  • Flexibility in working with classroom teachers.
  • Ability to work independently.
  • Good oral and written communication skills.
  • Enjoy working with preschool age children.
  • Ability to effectively supervise students while maintaining a positive relationship with them.

The employee will frequently bend or twist at the neck and trunk more than the average person while performing the duties of this job. The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 50 pounds 0 to 12 feet and occasionally up to 20 feet, such as curriculum materials, desks, chairs, and boxes. The employee will sometimes push/pull items such as tables and carts. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, color vision and the ability to adjust focus while supervising students and working with computers, written materials, reports, assessment data, etc.

The employee will frequently work in different areas of the classroom including in/at desks, on or near the floor, standing, in movement while supervising indoor and outdoor activities, etc. The employee will usually work in indoor temperatures but will work outdoors when supervising students outside of the classroom.
