Job summary

TEXAS HEARING INSTITUTE is seeking a warm, organized Language Teacher to support children aged 18 months to 6 years who are deaf or hard of hearing. You will plan and implement listening and spoken language lessons tailored to each child’s developmental needs.

Responsibilities include data collection, goal setting, family communication, and collaboration with the Teaching Assistant and school team. The role requires ongoing professional development and licensure activities; hours are 25 per week

Qualifications

  • Master’s degree in Deaf Education or related field preferred.
  • Experience with young children in listening and spoken language settings.
  • Understanding of child development, listening and spoken language development, and audiology.
  • Commitment to the mission of Melinda Webb School and the families served.

Responsibilities

  • Plan and implement lessons for toddlers and preschoolers who are deaf or hard of hearing.
  • Create a classroom environment that encourages communication, independence, curiosity, play and positive relationships.
  • Collect data, complete assessments, write goals, and inform progress reports.
  • Provide supervision during instruction, transitions, lunch, and field trips.
  • Support routines, amplification checks, toileting/care needs, and first aid as needed.
  • Communicate progress and concerns with families in a timely, professional manner.
  • Collaborate with Teaching Assistant and school team on routines and learning activities.
  • Attend meetings, professional development, and school events.
  • Pursue Listening and Spoken Language Specialist certification; mentor as required.
  • Complete 30 hours of continuing education annually for licensing and Texas Rising Star.
