Job summary

Southern Oregon ESD seeks an Early Intervention Teaching Assistant I to provide supervision and instruction for children with developmental delays. Work is done under the classroom teacher and EI Specialist guidance to support communication, cognitive, and motor development.

Responsibilities include implementing planned activities, assisting with feeding and daily care, and maintaining progress charts. The role is in Grants Pass at the ECS office, with hourly pay under the collective bargaining

Qualifications

  • High school graduation or equivalency and at least one year of experience caring for children.
  • Knowledge of classroom and individual behavior management techniques, language strategies, and developmentally appropriate practices.
  • Ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions, learn hands-on, and build nurturing relationships with children.

Responsibilities

  • Carry out group and individual instruction for children as outlined in the IFSP.
  • Assist with feeding, toileting, and adapt devices as directed by staff.
  • Supervise children to ensure a safe learning environment.
  • Prepare activities and maintain attendance and progress notes.
  • Support therapists with language and motor goals as directed.

Southern Oregon ESD seeks a member to join our Early Childhood Services (ECS) team. Our transdisciplinary team of 35 dedicated teachers, assistants, family consultants, therapists, evaluators, and office professionals are focused on authentic and supportive relationships, professional growth through coaching and mentoring, and maintaining a "family feel" to our workplace. Early Intervention Teaching Assistant I
POSITION GOAL:

The Early Intervention Teaching Assistant I provides supervision and instructional activities for children with developmental delays; does related work as required.

LEVEL OF RESPONSIBILITY/SUPERVISION:

The Early Intervention Teaching Assistant I is responsible for carrying out group and individual instruction of children as outlined in the Individualized Family Service Plan (IFSP). Work is performed under the daily supervision of the classroom teacher with training and oversight provided by a consulting Early Intervention Specialist.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

(Positions may consist of some or all of the following duties.)

  1. Prepare activities (e.g. snack, art) as directed through daily schedule or supervisor instruction.
  2. Implement group and individual activities designed to encourage development in the areas of communication, cognitive, self-help, social, and motor skills.
  3. Provide specialized assistance with feeding, toileting, and delegated nursing tasks, including (but not limited to) medication administration, tube feeding, output measuring, and catheterization.
  4. Follow instructions of related service professionals regarding positioning, use of wheelchair, communication boards, or other adaptive devices.
  5. Implement language and motor therapy goals as directed by therapists, and report progress regularly.
  6. Supervise children at all times to ensure a safe learning experience.
  7. Assist with preparation and clean up of the facility including dishwashing, vacuuming, and other light housekeeping tasks.
  8. Maintain attendance, goal tracking sheets, and other charting as required.
  9. Participate as member of curriculum and goal planning team.
  10. Attend trainings as required.
  11. Comply with EI/ECSE and ESD rules and policies.
  12. Perform physical requirements unaided or with the assistance of reasonable accommodation.
  13. Perform other duties as assigned.
MINIMUM PREREQUISITES:
  1. High school graduation or equivalency and at least one year of experience caring for children.
  2. Knowledge of classroom and individual behavior management techniques, language strategies, and developmentally appropriate practices.
  3. Application of safety practices, laws, rules and regulations, confidentiality, and professional ethics.
  4. Ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions, learn through hands-on experiences; communicate effectively and establish effective working relationships with other employees, related service professionals, and parents; develop nurturing and supportive relationships with children; and recognize changing needs of children and respond appropriately.
  5. Sign language skills helpful.
  6. With training, operation of computers or other augmentative communication devices, wheelchairs, or other positioning or adaptive devices.
  7. Must obtain First Aid and CPR certification within sixty (60) days of employment.
  8. Pass a background check and maintain enrollment in the Child Care Division Criminal History registry.

LOCATION: in person at SOESD Ramsey Learning Center 711 SW Ramsey Ave, Grants Pass, OR 97526

LENGTH OF POSITION: 190 days (academic year)

PAY: Per Collective Bargaining Agreement $17.97-$21.50 an hour for the 2026-27 school year.

IMMEDIATE SUPERVISOR: Early Intervention Specialist III
