Job description

Education & Certification
  • High School Diploma or GED required.
  • Must hold a Child Development Associate (CDA) credential; must obtain within 6 months of employment. For mixed classrooms requiring two CDAs, obtain both within 6 months of each requirement. If a CDA is not successfully obtained, the employee must retake the course at own expense within 60 days; failure to obtain the second CDA leads to separation.

  • Bilingual in Spanish.
Responsibilities - Critical Action Items
  • Protect the physical and mental health and safety of children; no child left unsupervised.
  • Assist in creating an organized learning environment that promotes healthy development, aligned with Head Start Early Learning Outcomes for ages birth to five.
  • Assist in implementing prescribed curricula to provide developmentally appropriate learning experiences across language, literacy, social/emotional development, math, science, social studies, creative arts, and physical development; integrate child assessment data.
  • Support screenings, assessments, and ongoing evaluation of each child's developmental level and progress.
  • Support opportunities for parents and families to engage in child development and program services, including conferences, home visits, and group activities.
  • Follow appropriate practices to keep children safe during all activities, report suspected abuse and neglect, supervise children at all times; maintain conduct standards.
  • Comply with positive adult‑child interactions measured by the CLASS: Pre‑K instrument.
  • Support and participate in staff development, complete minimum training, continuing professional development, and wellness initiatives.
Other Responsibilities
  • Support classroom activities as directed by the teacher and help with transitions.
  • Support use of age‑appropriate equipment, materials, supplies, and physical space for indoor and outdoor learning environments; change materials to match children’s interests.
  • Communicate child observations to teachers, flag potential development interference.
  • Support teachers’ coordination with education and child‑development professionals to address identified needs.
  • Support school functions, meetings, team decision and operations.
  • Maintain confidentiality in all areas of child and program operations.
  • Perform other job duties as assigned.
Measurable Deliverables
  • Respond to classroom requests for support in a timely manner, compliant with regulations and protocols.
  • Maintain regular communication with teachers about student behavior and progress.
  • Keep classroom free from physical and environmental hazards.
  • Report incidents within designated timeframes.
Requirements
  • Respond sensitively and competently to the service population’s cultural and socio-economic characteristics.
  • Communicate in writing and verbally in English; Spanish preferred.
  • Maintain emotional control and professional composure at all times.
  • Have working knowledge of Innovative Network of Knowledge policies and procedures.
  • Organize and prioritize duties in a fast‑paced environment.
