Qualifications

• PEL with Paraprofessional Statement of Approval must be current and active in Illinois.
• State Board of Education and School Code qualifications maintained annually.
• CPI or equivalent restraint and timeout certification up to date.

Responsibilities

• Provide feedback on child progress, interests, or challenges to the teacher.
• Assist with organization and implementation of instructional tasks and materials.
• Support learning in small groups or one-on-one as requested.
• Record observations in line with curriculum and IEP goals.
• Assist with daily routines and classroom tasks (bus duty, arrival/departure, library, activities).
• Prepare materials, snack, and classroom setup; maintain cleanliness.
• Participate in in-service trainings as assigned.
• Support student independence using prompting hierarchy as directed.
• Assist with behavior management under supervision, including guided self-management strategies.

Job Summary

• Provides relevant feedback with the teacher(s) regarding the child's progress, interest levels, or challenges.
• Assists with the organization and implementation of instructional tasks and materials as directed in order to support learning and the instructional process.
• Works with individuals and small groups at the teacher's request in review, reinforcement, enrichment, and/or expansion of skills and concepts presented.
• Assist in recording observations of student's behaviors and performance in accordance with the curriculum and the student's IEP goals.
• Assists with various tasks such as: guiding student through daily routines, bus duty, arrival and departure routines, bathroom assistance, library, and outside activities.
• Assist teacher by performing daily classroom activities such as: checking student backpacks, preparing table activities, preparing snack, and cleaning tables/classroom.
• Participates in in-service training programs as assigned.
• Utilizes observation, proximity and the prompting hierarchy as directed to maximize student independence.
• Assists in positive behavior management under the direction of the teacher and team, implementing specific behavior intervention strategies as directed to guide learners in using self-control and self-management strategies which may include physical management.
• Utilizes confidential and personal information concerning students and staff for professional purposes only, in accordance with District procedures
• Assists with mobility and self-care needs of students as necessary, including mealtime, bathroom care, and securing students for bus transportation using individual or team approach as directed by guidelines established by PT and educational team
• Performs other duties and assumes other responsibilities as may be assigned.

Qualifications

1. Must possess a PEL with Paraprofessional Statement of Approval issued by the Illinois State Board of Education.
2. Certification and qualifications as set by the State Board of Education and the School Code, including maintaining annual certification for restraint and time out requirements (e.g. CPI).
3. Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Board of Education may find appropriate.

Salary Range

$21.85 - $23.87 Dependent Upon Experience
