Job description

Summary

Starting August 2026, the Early Care and Education Center at Keene State College will operate under the umbrella of the Boys & Girls Clubs of Central and Northern New Hampshire. This high-quality early childhood program serves as both a nurturing learning environment for young children and a hands‑on training site for university students. Grounded in developmentally appropriate, play‑based practices, the center supports children’s social, emotional, cognitive, and physical growth while fostering strong partnerships with families and the university community.

We are seeking dedicated team members to join us this August. This is an exciting opportunity for passionate educators to become part of a collaborative, mission‑driven team, make a meaningful impact in the lives of children, and grow professionally within a supportive and dynamic environment.

Duties
Prepare Youth for Success
  • Creates a responsive, inclusive classroom environment that promotes Youth Development Outcomes while serving as a demonstration site for best practices in early childhood education.
  • Responds sensitively to the interests, requests, and developmental needs of individual members; interacts positively; encourages inquiry and exploration; and models positive child guidance strategies for college observers and practicum students.
  • Designs and implements curriculum grounded in emergent practices, using intentional planning that is transparent and instructional for observers. Explains the rationale behind instructional decisions to connect theory to classroom practice.
  • Uses systematic member observation and documentation (anecdotal notes, developmental assessments, portfolios, learning stories, etc.) as tools for curriculum planning. Maintains accurate and up‑to‑date records.
  • Establishes and maintains program goals that prioritize member health, safety, and social‑emotional well‑being, while demonstrating regulatory compliance (NH Child Care Licensing Regulations, Boys & Girls Clubs of America safety rules) and ethical practice.
  • Continuously accounts for members in the assigned group by name and face, modeling active supervision and safety protocols.
  • Oversees implementation of NAEYC standards, GSQ (when applicable), Culture DNA code, and BGCCNNH and CCLU policies, explicitly connecting accreditation standards to classroom practices for student learning.
  • Dispenses medications according to company policy, administers first aid as needed, and communicates appropriately with families—modeling professional responsibility and documentation practices.
  • Maintains a well‑organized, safe, and aesthetically intentional classroom environment that reflects best practices in early childhood settings and serves as a learning model for observers. Assists with cleaning and upkeep of the classroom.
Program Development, Implementation, and Supervision
  • Utilizes proper record‑keeping and weekly reporting, including documentation of activities and events in the membership system; collaborates with Center Director and staff to analyze data for program improvement.
  • Facilitates open, professional, and reflective communication with families, staff, members, and college/university partners.
  • Ensures that the college students or adult learners are supported in the absence of the Mentor Educator.
  • Leads or participates in collaborative planning meetings with the teaching team and may facilitate reflective discussions that include student educators.
  • Increases visibility of programs through daily schedule postings, documentation displays, family communication, and digital platforms to showcase member learning and pedagogical approaches.
  • Performs other duties as assigned in support of members, staff, and the demonstration site mission.
Requirements
Minimum Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Early Childhood, Pre‑School Education, Youth Development, Elementary Education, or related field with at least 6 credits in Early Childhood or Pre‑School Education and one year of experience in teaching young children (Birth‑age 5).
  • Bachelor’s and 3‑5 years’ experience teaching young children (Birth‑5), supervision experience, experience with Pyramid Model implementation, emergent curriculum, and anti‑bias practice.
  • Knowledge of current methods, principles, and techniques of EC teaching, including constructivism, emergent curriculum, project work, and the Pyramid Model Framework.
  • Knowledge of curriculum development and application.
  • Ability to plan and implement quality programs, with a proven track record of creative teaching strategies.
  • Ability to form developmentally appropriate relationships with children and promote positive behavior.
  • Ability to model appropriate and nurturing child guidance using positive guidance strategies, including the Pyramid Model Framework.
  • Ability to engage with each family, maintain ongoing communication with classroom families, including daily communications, regular written communication, planning and conducting parent conferences and family education events.

  • Must obtain NH Health Record within 60 days of hire.
  • Expected to meet monthly with the Director and complete the annual evaluations process. Participate in college student or adult learner meetings. Attend staff meetings, participate in committees, and work on special projects.
