General Position Description:

Provides training and technical assistance on expulsion prevention topics in early childhood settings. Partners with early care and education professionals in promoting social-emotional development, preventing behavioral challenges, and strengthening the early care and education professional’s capacity through a consultative approach.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Uses a framework of promotion, prevention and early intervention to promote social emotional development and resilience, and prevention of behavioral difficulties for those at risk for expulsion.
  • Acts as a resource regarding early childhood development with an emphasis on emotional and behavioral health and the importance of the relationship between the participant and child.
  • Develops intervention strategies utilizing a team approach to assist early educators in developing positive behavior support strategies to promote optimal social-emotional development.
  • Collaborates with childcare providers, directors, managers, and other team members to build their knowledge and skills to support the needs of children and families.
  • Provides group and individual training on overall social and emotional wellness with specific topics related to child development, classroom management, behavior, relationships, self-care, and other expulsion prevention related topics. Conducts trainings in-person and virtually during the week, both during the day and evenings as well as on weekends when needed.
  • Provides observations and recommendations regarding the social-emotional environment to assist in identifying children in need of support with behavioral, emotional or developmental concerns.
  • Partners and supports early care and education providers to support ongoing communication with parents regarding early learning, behavioral, or developmental concerns for their children.
  • Provides technical assistance in three-hour increments in-person and virtually to group homes, childcare centers, home-based providers, tribal communities and homeless shelters holding a registration agreement with DES.
  • Develops and implements a plan to deliver technical assistance that includes a written agreement between Easterseals Blake Foundation, the recipient of technical assistance, and the Director or Program Administrator.
  • Adheres to all paperwork and program requirements. Ensures attendees complete attendance verification and evaluation forms after completion of each training and technical assistance sessions.
  • Participates in the process of ongoing professional development and meetings. Maintains comprehensive communication among all contacts within the agency, members, and external agencies.
  • Models professional standards and ethics in accordance with EBF Code of Conduct, Strategic Plan, Mission, and Vision.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Requirements

Minimum Requirements:

Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Early Childhood Education, Education, Family Studies, Child Development, Counseling or a related field. Experience working with young children in classroom settings. Bilingual (Spanish) preferred.

Regulatory:
  • Must be at least 21 years of age.
  • Current, unrestricted AZ driver’s license with no more than two (2) minor moving violations or one (1) accident within the past three (3) years. Three (3) years of driving experience required.
  • Must be able to pass a criminal background check prior to employment and regular checks for the duration of the employment.
  • Transportation for daily visits, to attend trainings, and perform other work-related activities. Organizational vehicles may not be available at all times.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain an AZ DPS Level 1 fingerprint clearance card (employer provides).
  • CPR and First Aid certification (Employer provides).
Skills/Job Knowledge/Abilities:

Able to establish and maintain a team atmosphere of communication and collaboration for all that reach out to the Department. Must be self-directed and be sensitive to cultural and linguistic diversity. Excellent customer service in stressful situations. Ability to use initiative and judgment in selecting proper course of action in unusual or emergency situations. Maintains a professional in appearance, communications, and actions. Excellent interpersonal communication skills. Ability to recognize the need to maintain a dual focus on both relationships with participants and program activities fostering an assets or strengths-based approach. Maintains confidentiality related to private and sensitive information within the confines of need-to-know parameters. Demonstrates an understanding of child development, developmentally appropriate practice, positive guidance and discipline, child-centered approaches, and management in early care and education settings. Basic knowledge of community resources and referrals in the community, as well as the Code of Ethics of the National Association of Social Workers (NASW) and the National Association for the Education of Young Children (NAEYC). Ability to apply adult learning principles and practices of multi-method instruction. Possess a high level of computer proficiency.

Working Conditions/Physical Requirements (with or without accommodation):

Normal office environment with multiple interruptions in person and through computer and phone. Normal childcare and classroom environment with multiple interruptions in person. Field position visiting different sites or homes for member care. Will work outside and inside environments, as needed. Travel to outlying sites and other locations. Interacts with employees and members of the public on a daily basis. High activity environment with children and parent interactions. May lift normal office equipment and materials up to 25lbs. Visual acuity to read information from computer screens, forms, and to assess the wellbeing of the children. Able to speak clearly in conversations and general communications. Hearing ability for communication in persona, phone, and/or other electronic methods. Manual dexterity for typing and writing. Able to stoop, squat, reach, pull, push, stretch, ascend and descend stairs, stand and sit for long periods of time. May be required to work additional hours or days depending on circumstances.
