The Early Childhood Education Mentor Teacher is responsible for assisting with all aspects of the Education content area for the Child Development Program, including Head Start, Early Head Start, and Childcare Services.

Received: Works under the direct supervision of the Content Manager and general supervision of the Child Development Director. Externally, the role emphasizes mentoring, professional development, and collaboration with leadership to meet program goals.

Qualifications

  • Minimum 2 years direct Head Start classroom experience.
  • Experience providing training and technical assistance supports.
  • Experience working with children affected by poverty-related stress.

Responsibilities

  • Plan and implement professional development opportunities for teaching staff.
  • Mentor teachers to strengthen their practice and navigate classroom challenges.
  • Provide constructive feedback and model effective instructional strategies.
  • Develop and share resources to support curriculum and lesson planning.
  • Foster a culture of continuous learning and lead Community of Learning groups.
  • Assist in onboarding and training of new staff.
  • Identify PD needs with leadership and track progress.
  • Encourage family engagement and Home School Connections.
  • Conduct observations of Head Start classrooms per grant obligations.
  • Promote CAPHR’s philosophy and codes of ethics and conduct.

Job description

The Early Childhood Education Mentor Teacher is responsible for assisting with all aspects of the Education content area for the Child Development Program, including Head Start, Early Head Start, and Childcare Services.

RATE: $24.03-$25.43

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Collaborate with the Education and Social Emotional team to plan and implement professional development opportunities that support teaching staff in meeting or exceeding professional development goals, program requirements, and delivering high-quality experiences for children and families.
  • Mentor, support, and guide teachers in strengthening their professional practice and navigating classroom challenges
  • Provide constructive feedback, model effective instructional strategies, positive classroom management techniques, and best practices in early childhood education.
  • Develop and share resources and materials to support curriculum implementation, lesson planning, and individualized supports.
  • Foster a culture of continuous learning, collaboration, and professional growth, including, but not limited to, the facilitation of Community of Learning groups.
  • Assist in onboarding and training of new staff.
  • Partner with leadership to identify professional development needs and track progress.
  • Encourage family participation in the program; assist teachers with ways to increase family engagement in their child’s education, including, but not limited to, Home School Connections.
  • Conduct observations of Head Start classrooms in accordance with grant obligations.
  • Adhere to and promote the Child Development Program philosophy and educational objectives.
  • Attend conferences and trainings on the development of young children.
  • Relate professionally and tactfully with all parents and staff.
  • Support the Child Care Program and CAPHR’s Code of Ethics and Code of Conduct.
  • Present a professional and positive image as a representative of the center, Child Development Programs, and CAPHR.
  • Maintain professional boundaries with all current, past, and prospective clients, and maintain the confidentiality of clients and staff, in accordance with CAPHR policies and procedures.
  • Abide by all CAPHR safety policies and procedures
  • Responsible for having adequate knowledge of all CAPHR programs and gather sufficient intake information to make referrals to other CAPHR programs which are beneficial to the client and his/her family.
  • Perform all other related duties as assigned
REQUIRED SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

A minimum of 2 years direct experience in a Head Start classroom; skilled in working with children impacted by the stressors associated with poverty; experience in the provision of training and technical assistance supports.

EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE:

Minimum of an Associate’s degree in early childhood education; Bachelor’s degree preferred.

PREFERRED EXPERIENCE:

A minimum of 2 years of direct experience in a Head Start classroom; skilled in working with children impacted by the stressors associated with poverty; experience in the provision of training and technical assistance supports.
