Job summary

JCC Chicago in Evanston is seeking an Assistant Teacher for our infant program. You will work with a team to provide a developmentally appropriate, play-based curriculum that embraces Jewish life and supports each child's growth.

As part of a Reggio Emilia-inspired program, you will help implement emergent lesson plans, participate in staff development, and maintain strong communication with families while adhering to safety and DCFS standards.

For the 2026-2027 school year, JCC Chicago seeks a dynamic and dedicated Assistant Teacher to join our Evanston/Beth Emet location working with infants. Job Summary

The Assistant Teacher is a critical member of a team of educators, social workers, and specialists who support the whole child through a developmentally appropriate curriculum that embraces Jewish life and complements what happens at home.

As a Reggio Emilia inspired Early Childhood program, we support the individual needs and abilities of each student through an emergent, play-based curriculum. We are looking for professional educators who are interested in growing with us.

Key Areas of Responsibility

• Ensure the safety and welfare of all children, supervising by sight and sound.
• Work with the teaching team to implement the JCC's integrated secular and Jewish curriculum.
• Provide and maintain an atmosphere conducive to emotional and cognitive growth.
• Establish and maintain strong communication with directors, staff, and families.
• Welcome families and provide information regarding their child's progress.
• Foster a collaborative, team-focused environment throughout the classroom and agency.
• Participate in at least 15 hours of staff meetings, training sessions, and professional development annually.
• Help maintain DCFS and Illinois state standards.

Additional Responsibilities

• Contribute written content and photos for newsletters, portfolios, and family communications.
• Participate in regular communication with families through meetings, email, Kaymbu, conferences, and portfolios.
• Assist with classroom management, daily routines, and social-emotional support for children.
• Demonstrate awareness of the classroom environment and actively move throughout learning spaces.
• Assist with classroom setup and implementation of lesson plans created by the Lead Teacher.
• Maintain respect for children, families, and colleagues.
• Follow Social Services guidelines regarding developmental or behavioral concerns.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

Physical Requirements

• Lift and move with children weighing up to 40 pounds.
• Demonstrate physical stamina and mobility throughout the workday.
• Move quickly between sitting and standing positions.
• Stand for extended periods and actively engage with children.
• Respond effectively to emergencies, including lifting children and moving quickly.
• Supervise children by sight and sound at all times.
• Participate in swim programs and be comfortable in the pool with children.

Schedule

Full-Time - Monday through Friday 10:00 AM to 6:00 PM

Salary Range

$16.32 to $25.50 per hour, based on experience.

Education Qualifications

• Experience in preschool, kindergarten, or licensed childcare settings serving children from birth through age six preferred.
