Essential Systems Inc. in Maryland seeks a junior Systems Engineer to design, integrate, and develop closed-system protection solutions for nuclear-grade environments. The role focuses on architecture, networking, and documentation for on-premise, isolated networks.

Candidates should have strong writing abilities and familiarity with intrusion detection, access control, and video surveillance concepts. Occasional travel to customer sites is expected.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Engineering (Systems, Electrical, Software, or related).
• 3–5 years of experience designing and integrating systems.
• Strong understanding of electrical/electronics.
• Knowledge of software and computers; firmware knowledge a plus.
• Strong writing skills for proposals and system docs.
• Ability to read schematics and wiring diagrams; CAD experience a plus.
• Ability to design and integrate components into a complete system.
• Solid networking fundamentals (subnets, IP routing, firewalls).
• Willingness to travel occasionally.
• Pass background check and drug screening.

Responsibilities

• System Architecture, Design & Integration.
• Develop closed, air-gapped networks with redundancy for servers, workstations, and field devices.
• Ensure compliance with 10 CFR 73 for nuclear industry.
• Coordinate with vendors, integrators, and internal teams.
• Create and maintain System Documentation.
• Development support including design reviews and baselines.
• Participate in FAT, SAT, installation oversight, and commissioning.
• Resolve issues identified during integration, testing, or operation.
• Support lifecycle upgrades and obsolescence management.
• Occasional travel to customer sites.
