Job summary

WSP is seeking an Early Career Substation Electrical Engineer in Minneapolis, MN to join the Power Delivery Substation Team. You will contribute to detailed design and QA/QC, supporting client objectives and project delivery.

Ideal candidates hold a BSEE or BSEET with 0–1 year of experience, possess strong English communication, and are willing to travel. This entry‑level role offers growth within a global engineering practice focused on HV substations and related systems.

Qualifications

  • BSEE (BS Electrical Engineering) or BSEET (BS Electrical Engineering Technology) degree from an accredited university, preferably with a power option.
  • Strong knowledge and understanding of electrical engineering to build on.
  • Strong command of English with good written and oral communication skills.

Responsibilities

  • Perform the detailed design of low to extra-high voltage substations including one-line diagrams, schematics, wiring diagrams, SCADA, communications, station layouts, and more.
  • Support QA/QC for deliverables to clients.
  • Adhere to company code of conduct and policies; work individually or in teams on complex designs.

Your Impact

The Early Career Substation Electrical Engineer will share responsibility with the rest of the department to produce a product consistent with our mission statement and our culture.   • Perform the detailed design of low to extra-high voltage substations including, but not limited to:
    • One-line diagrams
    • Schematics
    • Wiring diagrams
    • SCADA
    • Communications
    • Station physical layouts
    • Sections/Elevations
    • Cable and conduit plans and details
    • Ground grid design and details
    • Foundation plans and details
    • Structural plans and details
    • Control enclosure design and details
    • Lightning protection plans
    • Yard lighting plans
    • Bills of Materials
    • Site visits
  • Support QA/QC for deliverables to clients
  • Exercise responsible and ethical decision-making regarding company funds, resources, and conduct, and adhere to WSP's Code of Conduct and related policies and procedures.
  • Perform additional responsibilities as required by business needs.
  • Shall learn, understand, and adhere to client standards and processes while working individually or within a team to complete complex and technically challenging designs
Who You Are

Required Qualifications

  • BSEE (BS Electrical Engineering) or BSEET (BS Electrical Engineering Technology) degree, from an accredited university preferably with a power option
  • Strong knowledge and understanding of electrical engineering to build on
  • Strong command of the English language with good written and oral communication skills in order to work effectively with internal team members and external client personnel
  • Legally authorized to work permanently in the US without the need for work sponsorship
  • Proven track record of upholding workplace safety and ability to abide by WSP's health, safety and drug/alcohol and harassment policies.
  • Occasional travel may be required depending on project-specific requirements.
  • 0-1 years of experience
  • Ability to work schedules conducive to project-specific requirements that may extend beyond the typical workweek.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Engineer in Training Certification.
  • A member of and/or actively participate in local professional practice organizations.
  • 3+ months of relevant electrical engineering work experience; could be on an internship or co-op basis
  • Minimum 3.0 Grade Point Average (GPA)
  • Knowledge of electrical utility substations and familiarity with substation design

Compensation:

Expected Salary (all locations): $61,300-$91,900

WSP USA is providing the compensation range that the company in good faith believes it might pay and offer ,for this position, based on the successful applicant's education, experience, knowledge, skills, abilities in addition to internal equity and specific geographic location. WSP USA reserves the right to ultimately pay more or less than the posted range and offer additional benefits and other compensation, depending on circumstances not related to an applicant's sex or other status protected by local, state, and/or federal law.
