Job summary

WSP is seeking an Early Career Mechanical or Civil Engineer intern for our Fort Mill, SC office. You will participate in transmission line design tasks, supporting new lines, relocations, upgrades, and fiber optic additions.

These roles offer mentorship through our Developing Professionals Network, exposure to real projects, and collaboration with senior staff. Local authorization and a December 2026 graduation are expected.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Civil or Mechanical Engineering with a December 2026 graduation target.
• Interest in Civil or Mechanical Engineering and a drive to advance skills in WSP projects.
• Ability to communicate effectively to engineering and non-engineering audiences.
• Capable of following direction from mentors and leaders to execute projects.
• Basic proficiency with technical writing, office software, and tools.
• Authorized to work in the United States at internship start.

Responsibilities

• Support a variety of engineering tasks to develop technical, social, and ethical skills.
• Learn basic Civil/Structural/Mechanical engineering principles.
• Assist with project research, field work, and preliminary design calculations.
• Support preparation of final design plans, provisions, and cost estimates.
• Assist in collecting and maintaining project documentation.

WSP is currently initiating a search for an Early Career Mechanical or Civil Engineer for our Fort Mill, SC office. Be involved in projects with our Power Delivery Overhead Transmission Line Department and be a part of a growing organization that meets our clients' objectives and solves their challenges. The successful candidate will be involved in all aspects of transmission line design for new lines, relocations, upgrades, and fiber optic additions.

Your Impact

Who You Are

Required Qualifications

• Bachelor’s Degree in Civil or Mechanical Engineering, or closely related discipline, with an anticipated graduation date of December 2026 (or December graduate from an accredited program).
• Demonstrated interest in Civil or Mechanical Engineering, or related field, and have a strong desire to advance skills related to WSP’s work and projects.
• Competent interpersonal and communication skills when interacting with others, expressing ideas effectively and professionally to an engineering and non-engineering audience.
• Capable of taking direction from leadership, mentors, and managers to executive projects.
• Basic proficiency with technical writing, office automation, software, spreadsheets, technology, and tools.
• Proven track record of upholding workplace safety and ability to abide by WSP’s health, safety and drug/alcohol and harassment policies.
• Authorization to work in the United States at the start of the internship.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Minimum 2.75Grade Point Average (GPA)
• Ideal coursework includes structural analysis, concrete, steel, soils, foundations, and surveying.
• Attention to detail, time management, and organizational skills will be critical for the successful completion of tasks.
• Prior internship and/or related designing, drafting, or engineering experience is a plus
• Students who have passed or are scheduled to take the FE/EIT exam will be strongly considered for this position
• Familiarity with design, drafting, or engineering software such as MATHCAD, SOLIDWORKS, AUTOCAD, and SharePoint is beneficial
• Prior internship and leadership involvement on campus.
• Engineer In Training (EIT) registration is desired
