WSP USA is seeking an Early Career Civil Engineer to join the Southeast Transportation Engineering Team in Tampa or Orlando, FL. You will contribute to the design, development, and construction of transportation infrastructure for public and private projects.

Responsibilities include assisting design teams, preparing documentation, and performing CAD-based tasks with attention to safety and quality. Effective communication and teamwork are essential for success in this role.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in civil engineering or closely related discipline.
  • 0–1 years of post-education experience.
  • Strong written and verbal communication for engineering audiences.
  • Ability to work independently or in teams in a dynamic environment.
  • Commitment to safety and project documentation standards.

Responsibilities

  • Assist design teams in delivery of highway, interchanges, and pedestrian infrastructure projects.
  • Provide input during preliminary and final design, including cost estimates.
  • Perform basic design tasks and engineering calculations using CAD tools.
  • Produce technical drawings and standard computations.
  • Attend design meetings and coordinate with cross-discipline staff.
  • Develop memorandums and technical documents.
  • Support, maintain team relationships and safety practices.
  • Travel as required on projects.

WSP is currently initiating a search for a full-time, Early Career Civil Engineer!

This role can sit out of our Tampa, FL or Orlando, FL offices.

This Opportunity

Be involved in projects with our Southeast Transportation Engineering Team and be a part of a growing organization that meets our client's objectives and solves their challenges.

Take part in providing local technical assistance for the design, development, and construction of infrastructure projects and systems in the public and private sector. Tasks may include basic assistance with the research, design, concept development, and construction of transportation civil infrastructure. Work with a team to generate accurate and concise documentation regarding assigned aspects of the project. Deliver work products meeting acceptable industry standards for design, safety, and functionality.

Your Impact
  • Assist and support design teams in the execution of project delivery on a range of project types including highway construction and re-construction, complex interchanges, pedestrian and bicycle infrastructure, innovative intersections, design-build, and more.

  • Provide technical input during various stages of project, including preliminary design, final design and contract documentation including cost estimates and specifications.

  • Perform basic design tasks, engineering calculations, and drawings using computer-aided design (CADD).

  • Perform standard computations and analysis.

  • Discuss and propose solutions to technical issues.

  • Collect data and gather information or documents.

  • Attend design meetings and coordinate with team members.

  • Develop memorandums and other written technical documents.

  • Maintain positive team relationships.

  • Assist and coordinate with key staff across disciplines (i.e. drainage, structures) as required.

  • Perform additional responsibilities as required by business needs.

Who You Are
Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Civil Engineering, or closely related discipline.

  • 0 to 1 years of relevant post education experience.

  • Competent interpersonal and communication skills when interacting with others, expressing ideas effectively and professionally to an engineering and non-engineering audience.

  • Proficient self-leadership with attention to detail, multi-tasking, and prioritization of responsibilities in a dynamic work environment.

  • Ability to work independently under general supervision, as well as part of a team to meet business objectives.

  • Basic proficiency with technical writing, software, spreadsheets, and technology.

  • Proven track record of upholding workplace safety and ability to abide by WSP’s health, safety and drug/alcohol and harassment policies.

  • Ability to work schedules conducive to project-specific requirements that may extend beyond the typical workweek.

  • Occasional travel may be required depending on project-specific requirements.

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Engineer in Training Certification.

  • Familiarity with discipline-specific design software (i.e., MicroStation, AutoCAD, Civil 3D, OpenRoads, Geopak).

  • Prior internship related to the degree of study and/or transportation engineering.

  • A member of and/or actively participate in local professional practice organizations.
