Job summary

Ventura Foods in Ontario, CA seeks a Maintenance Planner to manage planning, scheduling, and execution of PM, CM, and EM work orders using an Enterprise Asset Management system. You will coordinate with maintenance staff and inventory, track inspections, and ensure documentation is up to date.

Responsibilities include generating PM/CM work orders, maintaining schedules, and supporting maintenance leadership.

Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or GED required; Associate degree preferred.
  • 1–3 years in business administration, engineering, logistics, or supply chain management.
  • Experience in inventory, materials, and scheduling preferred.

Position Summary:

Plan, schedule, monitor, adjust/revise, close out and report on PM, CM and EM maintenance work orders using the EAM system (computerized Enterprise Asset Management system) tools. Be the coordination center, using two way radios, for the maintenance crew and staff throughout the day. Provide backup for the maintenance manager and maintenance supervisors and cover for inventory technician as required. Monitor and control documentation for all calibrated equipment and schedule inspections and corrective actions as required.

Major Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Runs the maintenance control center. Works with the foremen and mechanics on repair calls from the production floor and responds by creating required work orders using the EAM system programs, emergency maintenance (EM) and/ or corrective maintenance (CM) work orders. Monitors all current mechanical issues using the two way radio system
  • Creates a top level plan of preventive maintenance (PM) and CM work orders by using suite of EAM tools, and maintains a high level of communication with the inventory technician, maintenance supervisor, maintenance manager and production scheduler. Reviews all completed PM work orders and performs all necessary planning steps leading to the generation and scheduling of a CM work order
  • Generates detailed shift by shift schedules of PM and CM work orders using knowledge of the maintenance department’s capabilities, personal craft knowledge, a suite of computer-based tools and a constant communications interface with the production scheduler. Maintains the PM and CM shift schedules for the maintenance supervisors. Works with the foremen to schedule and assign workload to the maintenance department crew
  • Provides administration support for the maintenance manager and maintenance supervisors for such things as vacation planner, sick leave, office duties, and miscellaneous activities that all contribute to better control of the crew scheduling and deployment
  • Collects and enters completed work orders into the EAM system and completes the respective time entry function and post time card journal
  • Reviews availability of parts specified as required for the release of PM, CM, and EM work orders, and advises the inventory technician and MRO buyer of any shortages that may affect the scheduling of maintenance work. Works with inventory technician to create BOM parts kits for the PM work orders and to allow for quick issue of all the parts required to carry out the task. Substitutes for the inventory technician in their absence
  • Performs quality control checks on PM work orders and their respective routings for such things as correct routing steps, safety and environmental requirements, updating estimated time, correcting bill of materials and suggesting improvements. Continually improves PMs to reduce equipment downtime and man hours associated with them
  • Controls records for calibration of flow meters and other monitored equipment within the plant and schedules all relevant sources to come as required to inspect and maintain these items in a serviceable condition
  • Responsible for following all food safety policies, procedures and regulatory criteria including the current SQF code, Good Manufacturing Practices (GMPs), and the Food Safety Modernization Act (FSMA) and associated preventive controls
  • Other duties as assigned
Education and Experience:
  • High School Diploma/GED or equivalent experience; Associate’s Degree in Business Administration, Engineering, Logistics and Supply Chain Management or equivalent experience preferred
  • 1-3 years of experience in Business Administration, Engineering, Logistics and Supply Chain Management
  • Experience in inventory, materials and scheduling preferred
Knowledge and Skills:
  • Ability to read, understand and write a broad range of documents and to work with both the metric and Imperial measurement systems
  • Working knowledge of computer-based tools such as Microsoft Word, Excel and Access. Have a strong interest in learning other computer-based systems such as the CMMS
  • Understand the importance of precision and follow through in performing all aspects of scheduling activity
  • Effective communication skills to interface with management and floor level personnel
  • Ability to exercise excellent judgment and determination with respect to balancing the production goals of the operations and production managers with the maintenance goals
  • Understanding of the value of preventive maintenance (PM) and corrective maintenance (CM)and the aspects of planning and performing such work is required
