Job description

Allianz Technology is the global IT backbone of the Allianz Group, delivering technology services across 70+ countries.

As part of the EA 2.0 operating model, the Enterprise Architecture Management (EAM) team is growing its presence in the Americas region.

The EA Area Architect for Americas is accountable for the product portfolio, technology landscape, and architectural direction of the Americas operating entities. This role is the single point of architectural accountability at area level – bridging enterprise strategy and local business realities, and ensuring that architectural decisions across tribes and products are coherent, forward‑looking, and aligned with Allianz Group standards.

This is a high‑visibility role embedded within a globally distributed EA community. The person will operate with significant autonomy, represent the Americas area in global architecture governance bodies, and act as a trusted technical advisor to both engineering and business leadership.

What You Do
Architecture Ownership and Design
  • Own the target architecture and technology roadmap for the Americas area, aligned with the Allianz Group enterprise architecture and H4 standards
  • Support tribes and product teams in identifying the architecture and technologies that best fit their product designs, resolving interdependencies across area boundaries
  • Define and govern critical non-functional requirements (scalability, resilience, security, observability) across the area
  • Drive architectural evolution of existing platforms - reducing technical debt and improving product health
Architecture Governance
  • Chair or co-chair the Americas Area Design Authority (ADA), facilitating architecture decision‑making at area level
  • Represent the Americas area in global EA bodies, contributing to enterprise‑wide standards, patterns, and architectural decisions
  • Review and sign off on significant architectural changes, ensuring compliance with H4 guardrails and enterprise standards
  • Coordinate with Lead Architects in adjacent areas and functional domains (data, security, cloud, integration)
  • Review projects and gain alignment for the Challenge room sessions
Security Architecture
  • Ensure security architecture principles are followed in the design and implementation of services across the area
  • Consult product teams on secure‑by‑design patterns and facilitate security architecture reviews
  • Collaborate with the EA Security domain to embed controls appropriate for the Americas regulatory environment
Strategic Enablement
  • Participate in quarterly business reviews and planning cycles, providing architectural input to product roadmaps and investment decisions
  • Assess technology competencies within area teams and identify coaching and enablement needs
  • Contribute to the EA community of practice - sharing knowledge, validating patterns, and developing architectural standards
Experience & Qualifications
  • 8+ years in IT architecture roles, with at least 3 years at area or enterprise level
  • Proven track record managing architecture across complex, multi‑team product areas in large‑scale organizations
  • Background in insurance, financial services, or regulated industries is a strong plus
  • Familiarity with agile operating models (SAFe, Spotify-model or equivalent)
Technical Skills
  • Broad architectural knowledge across application, integration, infrastructure, and data domains
  • Hands‑on understanding of cloud platforms (AWS, Azure) and modern application patterns (microservices, event‑driven, API‑first)
  • Ability to assess and govern security architecture, including Americas regulatory context (SOX, state‑level data privacy)
  • Proficiency with architecture modeling tooling (ArchiMate, C4, UML, or equivalent)
Leadership and Communication
  • Strong stakeholder management skills - able to influence without authority across engineering, product, and business leadership
  • Able to translate complex architecture decisions into clear language for both technical and non‑technical audiences
  • Experience facilitating design authorities or architecture review forums
  • Comfortable working in a globally distributed, multicultural environment
Languages
  • English: full professional proficiency (required)
Location
  • Hybrid 3 days/week in Golden Valley, MN
