Job summary

Commonwealth of VA Careers is seeking personnel to stand-by for call-in work to support storm preparation and snow removal activities. You will participate in emergency operations to clear roadways, apply abrasives, and perform heavy manual labor such as plowing and debris removal.

The role requires the ability to operate loaders, backhoes, skid steers, and tractors, and the capacity to work day or night shifts to support emergency operations.

Qualifications

• Ability to perform heavy manual labor including standing, bending and lifting up to 50 lbs.
• Ability to perform preventative maintenance on diverse equipment.
• Must be able to work day or night shifts to support emergency operations.
• Safety shoes required for all duties.
• Valid driver’s license is required.

• Emergency Operations: Assist and support operations for clearing snow and ice from roadways, applying abrasives and chemicals on road surfaces.

Description for Candidates

• Perform special duties as assigned. The position is to stand-by for “call in” work to supplement advance storm preparation and snow removal activities, as required.

• Preventative Maintenance: Ability to perform preventative maintenance on equipment used during inclement weather to support emergency operations and clearing roadways.

• Ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions.

Minimum Qualifications

Additional Considerations

• A combination of training, experience or education in Emergency Operations, snow removal or related field is desired.
• Ability to work 12-hour shifts, night and/or day, when necessary.
• Ability to work outside normal business hours in emergencies, inclement weather, and hazardous traffic conditions.
