Job summary

Hargrove Engineers + Constructors seeks an Electrical & Instrumentation Designer to deliver technical design and drafting support for E&I systems. The role ensures PSI is maintained through MOC, collaborating with Operations, Maintenance, and Project teams to reflect installed asset conditions and approved changes.

The ideal candidate has 10+ years in instrumentation and electrical design within refining, petrochemical, or LNG industries.

Qualifications

  • Associate degree or equivalent with technical discipline in instrumentation/electrical/drafting.
  • 10+ years of instrumentation and electrical design experience in process industries.
  • Experience supporting MOC and PSI within PSM frameworks.

Responsibilities

  • Provide design and drafting support for E&I systems per project scope and standards.
  • Produce installation details, MCC single lines, electrical room layouts, wiring diagrams, cable schedules, and control panel layouts.
  • Assist on-site during startup and communicate scope/design changes promptly.
  • Maintain engineering records and PSI throughout MOC processes.

What You'll Be DoingJob Scope: The Electrical & Instrumentation Designer provides dedicated technical design and drafting support for Electrical & Instrumentation (E&I) systems at the facility. The primary responsibility of this role is to support compliance with OSHA Process Safety Management (PSM) requirements by ensuring accurate, complete, and timely maintenance of Process Safety Information (PSI) throughout the Management of Change (MOC) process.This position works closely with Operations, Maintenance, Reliability, Project Engineering, Process Engineering, and Document Control to develop, revise, validate, and maintain E&I engineering records. The individual serves as a key contributor in ensuring that plant documentation accurately reflects the installed condition of assets and that all E&I-related changes are properly captured in approved engineering systems.Primary responsibilities will include but not be limited to:Familiarity with and utilizing department design and drafting standards.Familiarity with project scope, specifications and design criteria upon assignment to a project task team.Producing installation details, motor control center single lines, electric room layouts, motor control elementaries, connection diagrams, cable schedules, control panel layouts and grounding, lighting, power and instrumentation plans under minimal supervision.Recognizing and communicating scope and design changes promptly.Providing on-site assistance during startup.Ideal BackgroundEducation: Associate degree in Instrumentation Technology, Electrical Technology, Drafting & Design Technology, Engineering Technology, or related technical discipline; or Equivalent combination of education and relevant industry experience.Certification: Certification is not required at this level.Experience: Minimum 10 years of instrumentation and electrical design experience in refining, petrochemical, chemical manufacturing, LNG, or other process industries preferredRequired Knowledge Skills and AbilitiesDemonstrated experience revising and maintaining engineering drawings and technical documentation.Experience supporting Management of Change (MOC) processes.Familiarity with Process Safety Management (PSM) requirements related to Process Safety Information (PSI).Ability to interpret:P&IDsInstrument Loop DrawingsLogic DiagramsCause & Effect MatricesElectrical SchematicsControl System DocumentationProficiency with CAD and engineering design software.Experience with intelligent plant design systems such as:Hexagon Smart InstrumentationSmart P&IDSmartPlant Foundation / SDxAutoCADStrong understanding of instrumentation and control systems used in continuous process facilities.Physical RequirementsAbility to sit, stand, or walk for long periods of time.Hargrove CultureWe work to create an environment founded on trust, personal integrity, and a “team mentality” so that each person understands the value of their contributions both on a project and company-wide level.
