Job summary

Hargrove seeks an experienced Electrical & Instrumentation Designer to provide design and drafting support for E&I systems at the facility. The role focuses on maintaining Process Safety Information (PSI) across the Management of Change (MOC) process and ensuring engineering records reflect installed assets accurately.

Key responsibilities include producing detailed installation layouts, MCC single lines, and instrument plans, while collaborating with Operations and Project teams to implement

Qualifications

• Minimum 10 years of instrumentation and electrical design experience in refining, petrochemical, chemical manufacturing, LNG, or related process industries.
• Experience supporting Management of Change (MOC) processes.
• Familiarity with PSM/PSI requirements and how PSI is maintained within MOC.
• Ability to interpret P&IDs, Instrument Loop Drawings, Logic Diagrams, and Electrical Schematics.
• Proficiency with CAD and engineering design software such as AutoCAD and Smart plant tools.

Responsibilities

• Produce installation details, motor control center layouts, electric room layouts, and instrumentation plans.
• Maintain PSI and ensure changes are captured in approved engineering systems.
• Support MOC processes and communicate scope/design changes promptly.
• Provide on-site assistance during startup when required.

What You'll Be Doing

Job Scope: The Electrical & Instrumentation Designer provides dedicated technical design and drafting support for Electrical & Instrumentation (E&I) systems at the facility. The primary responsibility of this role is to support compliance with OSHA Process Safety Management (PSM) requirements by ensuring accurate, complete, and timely maintenance of Process Safety Information (PSI) throughout the Management of Change (MOC) process.

This position works closely with Operations, Maintenance, Reliability, Project Engineering, Process Engineering, and Document Control to develop, revise, validate, and maintain E&I engineering records. The individual serves as a key contributor in ensuring that plant documentation accurately reflects the installed condition of assets and that all E&I-related changes are properly captured in approved engineering systems.

Primary responsibilities will include but not be limited to:

• Familiarity with and utilizing department design and drafting standards.
• Familiarity with project scope, specifications and design criteria upon assignment to a project task team.
• Producing installation details, motor control center single lines, electric room layouts, motor control elementaries, connection diagrams, cable schedules, control panel layouts and grounding, lighting, power and instrumentation plans under minimal supervision.
• Recognizing and communicating scope and design changes promptly.
• Providing on-site assistance during startup.

Ideal Background

Education: Associate degree in Instrumentation Technology, Electrical Technology, Drafting & Design Technology, Engineering Technology, or related technical discipline; or Equivalent combination of education and relevant industry experience.

Certification: Certification is not required at this level.

Experience: Minimum 10 years of instrumentation and electrical design experience in refining, petrochemical, chemical manufacturing, LNG, or other process industries preferred.

Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

• Demonstrated experience revising and maintaining engineering drawings and technical documentation.
• Experience supporting Management of Change (MOC) processes.
• Familiarity with Process Safety Management (PSM) requirements related to Process Safety Information (PSI).
• Ability to interpret: P&IDs, Instrument Loop Drawings, Logic Diagrams, Cause & Effect Matrices, Electrical Schematics, Control System Documentation.
• Proficiency with CAD and engineering design software.
• Experience with intelligent plant design systems such as: Hexagon Smart Instrumentation, Smart P&ID, SmartPlant Foundation / SDx, AutoCAD.
• Strong understanding of instrumentation and control systems used in continuous process facilities.
