Job summary

K2 Space is seeking a Dynamics Engineering Intern for a 3-month summer internship in Torrance, CA. You will help derive loads and environments for satellites during ground transport, launch, deployment, and on-orbit operation, applying university knowledge in a professional setting.

You’ll work with mentors and teammates in a collaborative environment, gaining ownership on complex space hardware projects and building hands-on experience in dynamics, testing, and analysis.

Qualifications

• Must be enrolled in a Bachelor's or Master's degree in mechanical, aerospace, or related engineering field.
• 6+ months of engineering experience outside the classroom (labs, projects, internships, etc.).
• Willingness to work in-person at HQ in Torrance for a 12-week period.

Responsibilities

• Own dynamic analysis, testing, and correlation to identify system performance solutions.
• Lead and execute a project impacting K2 Space’s mission with mentor support.
• Apply hand calculations and computational methods to understand physics behind work.
• Collaborate with cross-functional team on hardware trades relevant to the project.
• Solve real aerospace challenges using knowledge from coursework and beyond.

The Role

We’relooking for a stellarDynamicsEngineering Intern to join our team for a3monthinternship. As a member of our growing dynamics team, you will help own the successful derivation of loads and environments for K2 Space satellites during ground transportation, launch, deployment, and on-orbit operation. In these projects you will apply your university knowledge to help develop space hardware in a professional setting. K2 Space is a highly collaborativeenvironment,and our interns will be encouraged to work with mentors and other team members to execute complex projects whilemaintaininga significant level of ownership and autonomy.

Qualifications

• Must be currently enrolled in aBachelor’s or Master’sdegree in mechanical, aerospace, or other relevant engineering discipline
• 6+ months of experience applying technical engineering skills outside of the university classroom setting (eg: laboratory, research, extracurricular project teams, volunteering, personalprojectsor prior internship/work experience)

Additional Requirements

• Available for a minimum 12-week internship in person at our HQ in Torrance

Nice to Have

• Ability to work well in an integrated collaborative team environment, including frequent interactions with technicians, engineers, and managers
• Experience withFEAsoftware packages (experience can be in a professional, academic, entrepreneurial, or hobby setting)
• Experience with Python software development
• Understanding ofstructural dynamics, testing, and measurements
• Experience working with mechanical hardware or systems within an integrated engineering team outside a classroom setting (High Power Rocketry, CubeSats, Robotics Competitions, Formula SAE and Baja SAE, Engineers without Borders, Design-Build-Fly, NASA student launch, personal entrepreneurial ventures, etc.)

Compensation

• Hourly pay range for this non-exempt role is $30 - $40 per hour
• Hourly rate will be based on several factors including, but not limitedto:knowledge and skills, education, and experience level
• Housing and travel stipend may also be available
