Qualifications

  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in a related field.
  • Virginia Collegiate Professional License or Postgraduate Professional License with endorsement to teach special education.
  • Ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with students, staff, parents, and the public.

Responsibilities

  • Implements the assigned program of study.
  • Develops and implements Individualized Education Programs (IEPs).
  • Monitors student progress toward achieving instructional objectives and goals outlined in IEPs.
  • Maintains order in the classroom and, when applicable, on the playground.
  • Counsels pupils when adjustment and academic problems arise.
  • Discusses pupils' academic and behavioral attitudes and achievements with parents.
  • Keeps attendance and grade records as required by the school.
