Job summary

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree or higher from an accredited college or university.
• Valid Alabama teaching certificate in special education.
• Ability to meet suitability criteria for employment and/or certification/licensure under the Alabama Child Protection Act.
• Demonstrated proficiency in oral and written communication skills.
• Effective interpersonal skills, with an emphasis on communication and collaboration.
• Ability to develop and implement curriculum for assigned students.
• Ability to identify and solve problems as a productive team member.
• Ability to use technology to communicate, plan, provide instruction, manage data, and produce reports.
• Physical strength and stamina to perform job responsibilities, including lifting up to 50 pounds with assistance.
• Ability to stand, walk, stoop, assist with hygiene needs, and support student needs.

Responsibilities

• Demonstrates support for the school system's vision and priorities.
• Demonstrates knowledge of child development and special education characteristics.
• Applies current curriculum, research, and instructional practices.
• Assesses transition needs and related services for students.
• Participates in developing and implementing IEPs; attends IEP meetings.
• Uses varied instructional strategies tailored to individual needs.
• Monitors progress in regular education and provides needed modifications.
• Utilizes technology to plan, deliver instruction, and manage data.
• Ensures safe, orderly learning environments and crisis intervention when needed.
• Collaborates with peers, parents, and administrators to maximize student achievement.

Education

Bachelor's degree or higher from an accredited college or university

Valid Alabama teaching certificate in special education
