Job summary

Albemarle County Public Schools is seeking a School-based Substitute Teacher at Albemarle High School for the 2026-27 school year. This full-time, benefits-eligible role covers classroom teacher, specialist, or teaching assistant needs as daily school requirements dictate.

The position emphasizes building strong relationships with students, families, and staff, while supporting inclusive, anti-racist learning environments across school divisions.

Qualifications

• Candidates must hold a high school diploma or equivalent.
• Priority will be given to candidates who have prior teaching experience or are eligible for a Virginia Teaching License.

Responsibilities

• Serve in the absence of the classroom teacher.
• Deliver the lesson plan created and left by the classroom teacher.
• Meet and instruct students in the locations and at the time designated.
• Maintain the classroom environment conducive to effective learning within available resources.
• Prepare for classes and show evidence of preparation upon request.
• Encourage students to set and maintain high standards of classroom behavior.
• Protect students, equipment, materials, and facilities.
• Uphold school and county policies and procedures.
• Maintain records as required by law, system policy, and administrative regulations.
• Assist in upholding and enforcing school rules and administrative regulations.
