Qualifications

• Master's degree from an accredited educational institution.
• Valid Alabama Teacher's Certificate endorsed in the relevant subject area.
• Previous library media specialist experience preferred.
• Criminal background check required at applicant's expense.

Responsibilities

• Identify, select, or develop short- and long-range goals for the media program based on needs.
• Plan with teachers for integration of media/information skills into the school program.
• Develop schedules and organize resources for easy access to information and services.
• Review the school improvement plan and plan for acquisition of materials to support diverse learners.
• Develop and implement policies for efficient operation of the media center.
• Administer the media center budget based on program goals.
• Maintain records as required by law and policy.
• Assign, instruct, and supervise staff and volunteers.
• Coordinate selection and acquisition of media resources and equipment.
• Provide for use of current technologies and manage inventory.
• Solicit feedback from staff regarding availability and impact of media materials.
• Establish a records system for evaluating media collection usage.
• Assist with responsibilities for the school testing program.
• Teach library media skills in collaboration with teachers to support instruction.
• Instruct staff and students in use of resources and equipment.
• Provide reference assistance and promote critical thinking.
• Meet learning needs of all students with appropriate materials and resources.
• Apply learning principles to instructional delivery.
• Recognize indicators of distress and take appropriate action.
• Collaborate with teachers to support instructional goals.
• Participate in curriculum planning and development.
• Promote media resources and programs through public relations efforts.
• Maintain contact with other library and education agencies.
• Train faculty in use of media resources and technology.
• Keep updated with developments in education and media.
• Perform additional duties as assigned.

Education
