Job summary

UPMC is seeking a Staff Physical Therapist to assess patients, develop treatment plans, administer therapies, and monitor progress to improve functioning and reduce discomfort. You will educate patients, participate in discharge planning, and document care in accordance with department standards.

The role may involve supervising PT assistants, coordinating with physicians and health care teams, and contributing to continuous education and professional development.

Responsibilities

• Communicates patient's status to the referring physician and other health care team members.
• May serves as a clinical instructor for physical therapy students as well as residents and fellows in a specialty area of physical therapy.
• Maintains professional license/registration through steady pursuit and participation in appropriate continuing education and professional development opportunities to satisfy requirements for licensure/registration renewal.
• Performs physical therapy assessment and reassessment.
• Supervises physical therapy assistants in pediatric, adolescent, adult, and geriatric patients referred by a physician; develops plan of care including goals and treatment per physician referral and assessment results.
• Modifies or adjusts plan of care based on patient status and response to treatment.
• Works PTAs to adjust patient programs as patient status changes.
• Rotates through selected treatment areas to facilitate organizational needs.
• Attends staff meetings and in-service education programs.
• Maintains written documentation for all physical therapy services rendered including initial assessments, follow-ups, and discharge summaries; co-signs PTA documentation biweekly.
• Completes necessary charge and statistical information to reflect the service rendered to the patient.
• Provides verbal and/or written home instructions to patient and/or family members when applicable.
• Schedules patients to achieve and maintain productivity levels meeting the facility’s standards while delivering quality patient care.
