Job summary

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Journalism, Communications, English, or related field (or equivalent experience).
• Two years of newspaper, media, communications, or related experience preferred.
• Strong writing, editing, interviewing, and proofreading skills.
• Working knowledge of AP style.
• Experience with photography and digital image management.
• Ability to gather information, verify facts, and produce accurate content under deadline pressure.
• Strong organizational, time management, and communication skills.
• Knowledge of current events, community issues, and local government activities preferred.
• Proficiency with computers, content management systems, and standard business software applications.
• Demonstrated alignment with company core values and ESOP culture.

Responsibilities

• Research, write, and edit news, sports, and feature content for print and digital.
• Cover assigned news, sports, community, and special events.
• Develop and maintain relationships with sources, community contacts, and local organizations.
• Conduct interviews and gather accurate information for stories.
• Produce accurate, timely content in AP style and company standards.
• Capture and edit photographs and video to support coverage.
• Write accurate captions and identify individuals, locations, and events in photos.
• Monitor community events and ongoing developments to identify story opportunities.
• Meet deadlines while managing multiple assignments and priorities.
• Assist with the production of special sections, magazines, and other editorial projects as assigned.
• Represent the company professionally within the communities served.
• Adhere to company policies, journalistic standards, and ethical guidelines.
• Assist with newspaper distribution, insert delivery, and other publication support activities as needed.
• Maintain a commitment to internal and external customer service.
• Participate in the Great Game of Business and support company initiatives.
• Adhere to all company safety standards, including general workplace safety, cybersecurity, and regulatory compliance requirements.
• Perform all other duties as assigned.
