Job summary

Hazelwood School District in Florissant, MO seeks a Communication Arts Teacher for middle school. Requires MO certification in Language Arts (9-12 or 5-9). 12-month calendar with 191-day work year and 36+ hours weekly. Salary ranges reflect BA/MA and Doctorate levels with substantial benefits.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree and MO teaching certification
• Proficient in preparing rigorous, interactive lesson plans
• Proficient in Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Desktop Publisher and database management
• Able to work effectively with colleagues, parents, administrators
• Excellent written and verbal communication; self-directed and motivated

Responsibilities

• Meets and instructs assigned classes as scheduled
• Plans a program of study that meets students’ needs
• Creates a conducive classroom environment for learning
• Prepares lessons and provides lesson plans upon request
• Guides learning toward curriculum goals and communicates objectives
• Uses varied instructional techniques and media suited to students
• Encourages students to maintain classroom behavior standards
• Assess student progress and provide reports; diagnose learning needs with specialists
• Assist administration in policy implementation and rules for classroom behavior
• Plan and supervise teacher aides and volunteers; evaluate performance
• Maintain professional development through district opportunities
• Attend staff meetings and participate on committees
