Job summary

West High School in Iowa City, part of the Iowa City Community School District, seeks a 1.0 FTE Spanish Teacher to join our secondary program, teaching high school students in a dynamic urban district.

The successful candidate will hold a valid Iowa teaching license with a 5-12 Spanish endorsement, a bachelor’s degree in education or related field, and at least three years of K‑12 classroom experience. Salary is $50,000 per year; 186 contract days; posting 2026.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in education or related field required.
• Minimum 3 years of experience in a K-12 education system preferred.
• Alternatives to qualifications may be considered by the District.

Responsibilities

• Develop and implement daily and long-range lesson plans that align with state standards in whole group, small group, and individual student experiences appropriate to the needs of each child.
• Teach the district approved curriculum using district adopted instructional materials.
• Create a positive and engaging classroom environment that promotes learning and encourages student participation
• Collaborate with other teachers and support staff to develop and implement school-wide initiatives and programs
• Evaluate children’s intellectual and social growth, keep appropriate records and assist in preparing progress reports.
• Provide immediate and specific feedback to students regarding their academic progress.
• Communicate with parents through conferences and other means to discuss a child’s development and interpret the school program.
• Maintain professional competence through participation in building and district staff development activities.
• Supervise students in out-of-class activities during the assigned work-day.
• Fulfill conditions in the negotiated agreement.
• Assume other duties as assigned.
