Qualifications

• Massachusetts Licensure required.

Responsibilities

• T teaches general science, earth sciences, biology, chemistry, physics, physiology or science problems to secondary pupils.
• Plans a science program with demonstrations, lectures, discussions and student experiments; organizes laboratory activities for optimum learning.
• Demonstrates concepts using apparatus, experiments and instructional aids.
• Provides individual or small group instruction to adapt curriculum to pupil needs.
• Instructs pupils in safe handling of chemicals, science equipment and living things.
• Maintains safe storage and proper use of materials and equipment; coordinates repairs as needed.
• Establishes standards of pupil behavior for productive learning in labs and field trips.
• Evaluates pupil growth in knowledge, skills and scientific attitudes.
• Maintains professional competence through in-service and growth activities.
• Identifies pupil needs and collaborates with staff to assist health, attitude and learning problems.
• Participates in curriculum development and showcases science displays and programs.
• Communicates progress with parents and counselors.
• Participates in hands-on technology training with students with Massachusetts DOE and Community Agencies.
• Assists administration in accordance with the collective bargaining agreement.
